A bit more insight to add context here:

Yom Kippur is a solemn, serious day of atonement and reflection. It means “Day of Atonement” and is the final day of the Ten Days of Repentance that begin with Rosh Hashanah - the Jewish New Year.

Thank you to our community that pointed out the proper verbiage for this holiday, which was previously written as Happy Yom Kippur. When you know better, do better!

Thanks to the DeKalb History Center and Georgia Humanities, this digital driving tour features photos and audio from archives to tell the firsthand stories of DeKalb.

🎭 EXCITING NEWS! Shakespeare returns to the Avondale Estates Town Green!

After two successful seasons of bringing professional Shakespeare to the Avondale Estates Town Green, the popular community series formerly known as A Shakespeare Happening is entering an exciting new chapter as Shakespeare at Sunset.

“Investing in free arts programming is an investment in community, culture, and the quality of life that makes DeKalb County such a special place to live,” said Commissioner Ted Terry.

“Seeing how the community has embraced live theater at the Avondale Estates Town Green over the past two seasons has been incredibly rewarding. I am proud to continue to support Shakespeare at Sunset and remain committed to promoting the arts in DeKalb County.”

This series is presented in partnership with the City of Avondale Estates and funded by the Office of DeKalb County Commissioner Ted Terry. Produced by Nicole Sage through Bard x Sage PR, the fall series features a new collaboration with actors from Georgia Classic Theatre and continues to make professional Shakespeare accessible to all audiences.

The Taming of the Shrew – Saturday, October 10, 2026
The Merchant of Venice – Saturday, November 14, 2026
A Christmas Carol – Saturday, December 5, 2026

🦋 This week, Commissioner Ted Terry was proud to support artist Lori Lejeune | Atlanta Mixed Media Artist as she installed the first outdoor vinyl banner artworks from her Be The Change series at Legacy Park. The works are intended to spark conversation about pollinators and inspire environmental protections.

Join us for a community conversation about homelessness, housing instability and resources available throughout DeKalb County.

Hear from county leadership, professionals, and community partners about how DeKalb’s Continuum of Care Network connects individuals and families to:
• Street outreach and emergency assistance
• Behavioral and mental health services
• Emergency shelter and temporary housing
• Homelessness programs and supportive services
• Affordable housing and homelessness prevention
• Pathways to permanent housing and long-term stability
• Resources for families, veterans, seniors and other vulnerable populations
