Decatur Heritage Christian Academy

🦅 Upper School parents are invited to attend IGNite (Information Gathering Night) this Thursday, August 20, at 6:00 pm. IGNite is an opportunity to walk through your child’s daily DHCA schedule. Upon arrival, parents will meet in the cafeteria for a brief introduction and to receive a copy of your student’s schedule. Parents will then be dismissed to experience the classroom for 7 minute mini-periods. We are excited to have parents on campus to get a preview of your child’s school year!

🦅 Mrs. Hannah Henderson will be serving as our Library Coordinator. Mrs. Henderson has a Bachelors in Integrated Marketing and Communication from the University of West Alabama. Currently, she is working on a Masters in Elementary Education through UWA. Her background includes extensive work in marketing, public relations, and communications. She has also served as a 1st grade teacher at Lawrence County Christian School. Her love of for reading, books, and communication makes her a wonderful fit to serve in the library. Welcome aboard, Mrs. Henderson!

🦅 Mr. Patrick Patterson will teach Upper School History and comes to us with wide-ranging experience in education. In his career he has taught English, Social Studies, as well as served in administration. He received his Bachelors from Athens State University, Masters in Educational Administration from University of North Alabama, and his EdS degree from Samford University. Mr. Patterson has worked in the Decatur City School system and the last 21 years in the Morgan County Schools. We are very pleased to welcome Mr. Patterson to our DHCA faculty.

🦅 Mrs. Brooke Culver will be teaching Middle School Math. Mrs. Culver earned her Bachelors of Science from the University of North Alabama. Additionally, she has a Masters in Secondary Education from Western Governors University. Most recently, Mrs. Culver has been working in the Haleyville City Schools system as a Special Education paraprofessional. We are very pleased to welcome Mrs. Culver to our teaching community!

🦅 Mrs. Jenny Kennedy will be serving DHCA as our Music teacher. She comes to us with a wonderful background in performance and instruction. She is a graduate of Vanderbilt University with a Bachelors in Music. For years she has been a private piano teacher and has also worked in a Texas school district as an accompanist providing both support and preparation for student performance. We are very blessed to welcome Mrs. Kennedy to DHCA!

🦅 Mrs. Kelli Starnes joins our staff serving in the role of Upper School Administrative Assistant. Mrs. Starnes has a B.S. from Lipscomb University in Social Work and a Master’s degree from University of Alabama also in Social Work. She has wide-ranging experience as a social worker, parent educator for Parents and Children Together, and small business owner, uniquely equipping her to keep DHCA organized and moving forward. We are very thankful to have Mrs. Starnes join our staff.

📚 It’s almost time! We had a great time at the Back to School Bash yesterday at Decatur Heritage. Families were able to greet their teachers, have some outdoor fun, grab dinner, and meet their teachers Eagle athletes!

🦅 Mrs. Amy McConnell will serve as a 1st grade teacher in the Decatur Heritage Lower School. She earned Bachelors degrees in both Bible and Early Childhood Education from Lancaster Bible College as well as a Master’s degree in Education from Capital Seminary and Graduate School. Additionally, she has completed all the coursework required of a Reading Specialist. Mrs. McConnell has served as a teacher in homeschooling, Hershey Christian School, and Conewago Elementary School. It is our joy to welcome Amy to our DHCA faculty.

🍽️ Dinner will be available in the cafeteria (hamburger or hot dog, chips, bottled water) for $6 (cash/credit card) during the Back to School Bash.
