City Schools of Decatur schools will close for Fall Break, September 21-25.
District offices will close September 24-25.

*College Heights (ECLC) 0-3 program will remain open.

How do you make a cheeseburger laugh? You pickle it. Today is National Cheeseburger Day! Students across CSD were served a variety of burger options during lunch to kick off Fall Break. The school and district nutrition staff joined in the fun. Hats off to hamburgers! 🍔

The verdict on DHS Culinary students' 2026 Mac & Cheese and Wings War is YUM! Chef Tex's second- and third-year culinary students brought the gooey and the heat with creative, flavorful dishes presented to samplers from the school. Way to go, Chef Tex and DHS culinary students!

This week is National Arts in Education Week! We are proud of the award-winning arts programs offered in CSD and celebrate the talented teachers and coaches who enhance student experiences through the arts. Shout-out your favorite CSD arts teacher or experience! 🎭 🎶 🎨

Shoutout to BHMS flag football for ending the season with a record-setting 9 wins and 3 losses, finishing 3rd place in their division. Way to go, Bulldogs!

Calling all future Bulldog cheerleaders!

Join the Decatur High School Varsity and JV Cheerleaders during the 2026 Homecoming Week for a mini-camp for all students in grades K-5.

📣 Camp Dates: Monday, October 19 - Wednesday, October 21, from 4:15 - 6:00 p.m. at DHS
📣 Performance Date: DHS Homecoming Parade and Game on Friday, October 23
📣 Cost: $65 (fee includes a t-shirt and fundraising support for the DHS Cheerleaders)

All camp proceeds support the DHS cheerleading program.

Hispanic Heritage Month is observed in the United States from September 15 through October 15. This month, we recognize the Hispanic community's rich culture, its contributions to society, and the diversity within the community.

In observance of September as National Literacy Month, Georgia Reads Week (September 21-25), October as Dyslexia Awareness Month, and World Dyslexia Day on October 8, CSD is hosting Decatur Reads & Dyslexia Awareness Week, a full lineup of literacy and dyslexia awareness celebrations from September 28 through October 8 with both in-school and outside of school activities.

Highlights include:
📖 GPB Livestream with Malcolm Mitchell, Georgia Reads for America 250 at the public library, and a special read-aloud of Aaron Slater, Illustrator with Superintendent Dr. Whitaker.
📖 Head to the Decatur Book Festival for the keynote with 2026 Pulitzer Prize winner Brian Goldstone on Friday, October 2, 7 p.m., and the Kidnote featuring bestselling authors Katherine Applegate and Gennifer Choldenko on Saturday, October 3, 10 a.m.
📖 Watch for guest readers at schools, explore student talent in the Dyslexia Awareness Art Competition (entries due October 6 at noon; gallery walk October 7), and show your support by wearing red for World Dyslexia Day on Thursday, October 8. https://tr.ee/dyslexia-awareness-month

September is Attendance Awareness Month! Your presence matters! Regularly attending school is essential for students of all ages to grow academically and socially.

➡ Excused and unexcused absences add up to lost instructional time that is hard to make up.
➡ Chronically absent kindergarteners and first graders are significantly less likely to be reading proficiently by third grade than those with good attendance.
➡ In middle and high school, poor attendance can be a predictor for dropping out.
