Mary’s Gift, the beneficiary of Dazzle Me Pink, was born of a simple but powerful belief: Every woman deserves access to potentially life-saving breast cancer screening, regardless of her circumstances. Mary Shannon, who passed away in July, was one of the people who helped turn that belief into a reality.
The idea for Mary’s Gift began more than 15 years ago after friends Mary, Jeannine Eaton and Denny Deady asked a powerful question: Why couldn’t Wise County have a free breast cancer screening program for neighbors in need? With the support of Wise Health System, its administration and hospital foundation, that idea became reality. Through donations and community fundraising, Mary’s Gift began providing free mammography services to women and men who might otherwise have gone without screening.
As we gather for 2026 Dazzle Me Pink, we do so not only to remember Mary but also to continue the work she believed in. Every ticket purchased, donation made and contribution given helps carry her vision forward and gives another woman the opportunity for early detection, hope and potentially a healthier future.
