Did you know that Community Action Partnership of North Alabama administers weatherization money to income-eligible households in the area - including Decatur! Weatherization measures can include caulking around windows, weather-stripping exterior doors, repairing/replacing thresholds, adding attic insulation, tuning up HVAC units and more! It's all designed to reduce wasted energy and save $$$ on your heating and cooling costs. To see if you qualify, go to https://capna.org/weatherization/ to find the "guidelines" document. We still have some scorching temps this week! Stay cool and comfortable without breaking the bank by following some of these energy efficiency tips. Set that thermostat as high as you can comfortably and safely stand! (78 degrees is optimum but find the setting that keeps you comfortable and safe.) Close curtains or blinds to keep solar heat out. Use large appliances later in the day to avoid putting more heat into the house. Set you ceiling fan to turn counter-clockwise to create a wind chill effect on your skin. That helps offset a few degrees of that higher thermostat setting! Safety first! Stay hydrated and avoid being out in the heat if at all possible!

A customer just posted this to Facebook. Not sure of the exact location but it is somewhere in Decatur. Please know that this puts crews in a very dangerous position when removing them from utility lines. This appears to be a telecommunication line - but regardless, NEVER do this. Mylar balloons pose a similar hazard when released near lines. Your local utility infrastructure (power, fiber, phone) is not something to be played around with.
