A light in the dark

That's what Tania White has been to so many people.

I don't know that she will ever truly understand the way she makes people feel. She has this beautiful way of walking into someone's darkest day and leaving a little bit of light behind. She just loves people. That's who she is.

If you've ever been hurting, you know what a gift that is.

She's the friend who sits with you when there aren't any words. The one who somehow makes you believe tomorrow will be better. She's the calm when everything around you feels like it's falling apart. She's the hug you didn't know you needed. The safe place your heart can rest for a while.

The thing about Tania is... she probably has no idea how many people have made it through hard days because she simply showed up.

And then there's her voice.
If you've ever heard her sing with Sister Luck, you know it's more than just a beautiful voice. She doesn't just sing a song. she feels it. Somehow, every note carries a little piece of her heart, and you can feel it. It's one of those gifts that can't be taught.

But if you ask me, the most beautiful thing about Tania has never been her voice.

It's her heart.
It's the way she celebrates everyone else before herself. The way she gets excited for other people's victories like they're her own. The way she can make a room laugh until it hurts and, in the very next moment, be the one quietly holding someone together when life has fallen apart.

People like Tania don't come around very often.
I think we get so busy living that we forget to stop and tell the people who hold us together just how much they mean to us. We assume they already know.

I hope she knows.

I hope she knows that she has been the reason someone smiled when they didn't think they could.

I hope she knows that people have walked away from conversations with her feeling stronger than when they came.

I hope she knows that this world is gentler because she's in it.

And I hope, just this once, she can see herself the way the rest of us see her.

If Tania has ever touched your life, made you laugh, prayed for you, encouraged you, sang a song that spoke to your heart, or simply loved you well... would you tell her? I think sometimes the people who spend their lives lifting everyone else up need to be reminded that they're being held up too.

You are so deeply loved, Tania. More than you'll probably ever know.
