Another Asian Studies class down at MTI Decatur !

I love teaching this class and introducing new massage therapy students to eastern concepts and techniques. This class is designed as an overview and opens up a whole new way of thinking about massage therapy!

We do a little barefoot massage, Matwork, Thai, breathwork and energy as well as all the book work.

Do you ever have one of those days or weeks where something comes up over and over and you end up working with that concept or body area with a new (or different) awareness?
🦵
I’ve been thinking a lot about fascial connections a lot lately. It was prompted by two clients a couple of weeks ago who mentioned that they were feeling things far away from where my foot was “working”
🦵
Since then my work seems to have slowed more than normal and I have been specifically keyed into the upper quads.
🦵
Hanging out in the upper quads, letting the tissue melt underfoot, addressing TFL, and then going back into the quads is having an interesting effect on clients’ anterior torso. Especially those who spend a lot of time shaped like a croissant and/or at a desk.
🦵
It’s so interesting to me that even after 18 years of this work, clients are still challenging me to examine the way I work. And how their bodies continue teaching me even after all these hours spent working on thousands of quad muscles.

“I feel like I can breathe better.” You’d expect that kind of comment from a client, but this one came from a FasciAshi Fundamentals student during class.
🫁
So what’s happening when someone says they are breathing better after receiving barefoot massage?
🫁
A lot! Too much to put in a social media post and be thorough, but when you think about the combination of controlled pressure, tissue grip, and slow movements through the posterior and lateral tissues of the back, ribcage, and hips it’s easy to see why one might feel their breath becomes easier. Learn in class how posterior prone work also affects the front and spiral fascia lines as well as deep anterior musculature around the spine and that comment about breathing better really starts to make a lot of sense.
🫁
Want to learn more about how to get your clients breathing easier while giving your body a break? 😮‍💨 We’ve got a whole host of summer classes for you, check out the schedule and register soon!
