With hearts filled with gratitude, love, and cherished memories, the First Comfort Missionary Baptist Church family joins the Stocks family in mourning the transition of Mr. James Stocks, beloved owner of Stocks Funeral Home, dear family friend, and a man whose life and legacy are forever intertwined with the history of First Comfort.

Mr. Stocks was not simply someone who was connected to our church's beginning—he was family. His relationship with the first family of First Comfort Missionary Baptist Church was one built on love, trust, respect, and a bond that extended far beyond the walls of a church or the doors of a funeral home.

There is a special place in our hearts for Mr. Stocks because our story began with him.

It was in the chapel of Stocks Funeral Home that God planted the seed that would become First Comfort Missionary Baptist Church. Before there was a sanctuary, before there were pews filled with worshippers, before the church became what it is today, there was a vision, there was faith, and there was a place where that vision could begin.

And Mr. Stocks opened that place.

What began in the chapel of Stocks Funeral Home became the birthplace of a church whose ministry and legacy continue to touch lives.

But beyond that historic connection was something even more personal. Mr. Stocks and our beloved Senior Pastor & Visionaire shared a special bond. Their relationship was one that reflected genuine love, mutual respect, friendship, and family. There were memories, conversations, laughter, wisdom shared, and a connection that could not be defined simply by titles or circumstances.

That bond is a part of the treasured history of First Comfort.

As we reflect upon Mr. Stocks' life, we are reminded that sometimes God places people in our lives whose significance becomes even clearer as the years pass. Mr. Stocks was one of those people. His presence became a part of our foundation, and his legacy became a part of our story.

We will never forget that First Comfort was birthed in the chapel of Stocks Funeral Home.

We will never forget the kindness extended to our first family, church family, and every family recommended to Stocks Funeral Home care.

We will never forget the relationship shared between Mr. Stocks and our beloved Sr. Pastor & Visionaire & First Lady.

And we will never forget the role Mr. Stocks played in the early chapter of what God was building through First Comfort Missionary Baptist Church.

Today, we don't simply say goodbye. We say thank you.

Thank you, Mr. Stocks, for opening the doors that helped make room for a vision.

Thank you for being family.

Thank you for the memories.

Thank you for the friendship.

Thank you for the love and respect you shared with our first family.

And thank you for being a part of a legacy that will continue long after this earthly transition.

To the Stocks family, please know that you are surrounded by our love, prayers, and deepest condolences. We pray that God will comfort you in the days ahead and remind you that Mr. Stocks life made a difference.

His earthly assignment is complete, but his impact remains.

Mr. James Stocks will forever hold a special place in the heart and history of First Comfort Missionary Baptist Church.

From the chapel where our church was birthed to the memories that will forever live within our hearts, his name is forever woven into our story.

May he rest peacefully in the arms of our Lord, and may the legacy he leaves behind continue to speak for generations to come.

Today, we lovingly celebrate what would have been the 68th Wedding Anniversary of our beloved Founder & Senior Pastor, Rev. Dr. Noel Battle, and First Lady Martha Battle. Their love story remains a beautiful testament to commitment, faith, family, and the enduring grace of God. Though ourFounder & Sr. Pastor isn't physically here, the legacy of love they shared continues to live in the hearts of those who knew and loved them, and through the ministry and lives they touched. Today, we pause with grateful hearts to honor their journey, cherish their memories, and celebrate a love that time can never erase. 68 years of love, devotion, partnership, and faithfulness—a legacy beautifully remembered and forever cherished.
