Hey everyone, please join me in celebrating Wendy Wear in our September Spotlight!
We asked Wendy about her hospice story, and she said:
What drew me to hospice:
"I worked in Home Health for 14 years. I started to notice I would have someone on Home Health for a long time and get attached to the patient and their family. But then, when they declined and it was time for hospice, they would have to go to another nurse. This broke my heart because I wanted to be with them in their time of need. So, I started doing both for a while and then eventually just Hospice. My favorite thing about hospice is focusing on comfort and emotional support for the patient and their loved ones.
Our branch has some of the best employees, always willing to help out and go the extra mile for our patients and families."

Please join us in celebrating Autumn Cross in our August Spotlight!
We asked Autumn about her hospice work, and she said:
I've been a hospice nurse since 2017. After working in the hospital for a few years and seeing so many aggressive measures taken with terminally ill patients, I felt like I was being led to meet people where they were at and help provide quality of life over quantity. Hospice is a place where people meet you at the worst time of their life and invite you into their home to walk them through one of the most challenging times they will ever face. I can't imagine a more gratifying or humbling career, plus I get to do it with the best team around! It's an honor to be able to take care of others in our community when they need it the most. My hospice patients over the last 9 years have been such a blessing in my life!

Please join us in celebrating our July Spotlight staff member, Sibil Smith!
Sibil regularly goes above and beyond to serve our community as well as support our branch. We asked her to share her hospice why, and she said:
"While growing up, my mother took care of two grandmothers in our family home. One of them was there after major surgeries and the other was on hospice. I didn't initially start in hospice; I spent the first 14 years of my career in pediatrics and loved it. I came to hospice in 2017 as an "in between" career move and never looked back! I started working at SouthernCare New Beacon in June of 2022. It has been my absolute pleasure to serve our community in multiple facets."

Please join us in celebrating Sarah Huff in our June Spotlight!
We asked Sarah about her hospice, why, and she said:
My why...
As a teenager my mom and I sat with a friend's mom, who was on hospice - that was my first experience with hospice. I became a nurse - I knew one day I would be a hospice nurse. The first part of my nursing journey was spent loving on my mommas and babies as a labor and delivery nurse, welcoming new life into the world. Such a blessing! Now I serve my patients and families at the end of life, to be welcomed into someone's last chapter of life, this side of eternity, is also such a blessing and honor. My team - we have the best team! We work together to help each other and help our patients have the best care possible!
I am thankful to be a part of our team at SouthernCare New Beacon!
