Do you love chasing the fleeting beauty of garden flowers? Join artist Susan Diehl for a fun, inspiring, and informative weekend workshop focused on capturing the beauty of garden scenes through design and color harmony.

Using photographs provided by both students and the instructor, we’ll explore ways to create beautiful compositions and harmonious color relationships while painting the ever-changing beauty of the garden.

Come spend the weekend painting, learning, and feeding your soul with the beauty of nature.

Calling all artists! Applications are now open for The Tennessee River Valley Plein Air Competition. This is a 3-year collaborative event combining the efforts of the Carnegie Visual Arts Center, Kennedy-Douglass Center and Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment.

The event will be held from November 5th-11th. The finished pieces will be exhibited from December 22, 2026 – February 13, 2027 with a reception to celebrate the art and announce the award winners. Apply using the link below and visit our website for more info.

Happy Birthday to Mrs. Miriam McClung! Her work has inspired and encouraged people throughout her career. You will not want to miss her exhibit featuring her portraits at the Carnegie until August 22.

Last week, Miriam turned 91! 🎉 Throughout her career, she's painted senior adults again and again — relatives, neighbors, friends' parents, people she didn't know personally, and even herself in later years. Back in her 50s, Miriam taught art at a retirement community in Birmingham and arranged an exhibit to showcase her students' work. Her empathy and compassion for older adults has shaped her art from the very beginning. A number of these portraits are currently on view at @carnegieartscenter in Decatur, AL, through August 22nd.

Join Huntsville local artist Kimberlee Guthrie for a fun and interactive live drawing event at the Carnegie Visual Arts Center!

This portrait workshop is open to all ages and skill levels. The evening will start off with a warm-up and demonstrations of helpful drawing exercises. Attendees will then practice quick drawings of the person across from them. The goal of the event is to encourage community interaction and loose drawing skills- by the end of the night, you will have drawn most attendees. All materials are provided, and free refreshments will be available.
