My name is Andi Stewart and I started sewing at a very young age - copying dresses I found in the pages of Vogue and turning them into ready-to-wear fashions for my Barbies and other dolls. I then went on to design such "high fashion" pieces as my high school prom dress. When I graduated high school, I really wanted to continue my education in fashion design, but lucky for me, my technology-minded
parents would have nothing of the sort and insisted I become an engineer. As my Daddy always said, "Be an engineer to put a roof over your head and then you'll have a house in which to sew." Therefore, I attended the University of Miami (Go Canes!) where I earned a degree in Environmental Engineering. I first started turning my little hobby into a business out of my South Beach apartment, hand-stitching cute clutches for my friends to carry when we hit the town. After moving back from Miami to my hometown in Alabama, I renamed my little business after the most amazing woman who taught me to sew - my Japanese Granny, Kazu Kurihara Vaughn (or Granny K as everyone who knew her called her, even if she wasn't their grandmother). When I married the love of my life, I almost burned myself out of sewing by creating a custom-made wedding gown for myself, all the bridesmaids dresses, and over 300 bags for all my guests. A year after my fashion-show wedding, I dusted off all five of my sewing machines and started dreaming and designing again. Through kazu k. designs, I hope to help you create the dress of your dreams...or skirt...or handbag. I promise to put all the love in the world into each piece, as I know it makes Granny K happy, smiling down from heaven! My goal is to make you happy with what you're wearing, no matter what your size, your style, or your budget, because every woman deserves to wear one-of-a-kind fashion...and that includes YOU!
