What a beautiful night to celebrate 10 years!

Last night was full of laughter, happiness, great fellowship, and plenty of reflection. Looking around at this group reminded us of just how much we have to be thankful for.

For 10 years, our family has had the privilege of serving our employees, who work hard to serve their own families, all while taking care of our customers and their families. That’s what this journey has always been about—people.

We are incredibly grateful for our team and for the families who support them. We love what we do because, at the heart of it, we get to serve and love one another.

The Defense Way is so evident in this group—their character, their commitment, the way they care for our customers, and the way they care for each other.

10 years down, and we’re excited about what’s ahead. Here’s to the next 10!

10 Years Strong. Faith. Family. Service. The Defense Way.

10 years ago today…

I was running around like a crazy person making sure everything was ready.

Insurance = check.
License = check.
Software = check.
Chemicals = check.
Equipment = check.
Called the handful of customers we had to confirm their appointments = check.
Office set up for my wife (and our newborn son) = check.
Nerves = check, check, CHECK.

Here we go…

We’re starting a business.

I really had no idea what the next 10 years would look like. I just knew we had to get up the next morning, take care of our customers, work hard, and figure it out as we went.

Fast forward to today — exactly 10 years later.

Team meeting = check.
Meeting with our manager about interviews = check.
Job offer to a new technician = check.
Paychecks for the team = check.
Follow-ups on proposals from last week = check.
New proposals sent = check.
LED lighting upgrade contractor = check.
Truck purchase evaluation = check.
Schedule updates = check.

And somewhere in the middle of today, it hit me…

This is what we were building 10 years ago.

Back then, we were trying to get everything together just to take care of a handful of customers.

Today, we’re building a team, creating jobs, buying trucks, improving our facility, pursuing new opportunities, serving customers all across North Alabama, and planning for what comes next.

There have been some incredible highs over these 10 years — and there have been some really hard seasons too. We’ve made mistakes. We’ve learned. We’ve changed. We’ve grown. And there were certainly days when owning a business wasn’t nearly as exciting as it sounded 10 years ago.

But God has been faithful through every bit of it.

I’m thankful for every customer who took a chance on us, every employee who has helped build this company, every person who has referred us, encouraged us, prayed for us, and supported our family along the way.

And I’m especially thankful for my wife, who was sitting in that first little office with our newborn son while we took this leap together.

Ten years ago, the checklist was about starting a business.

Today, the checklist is about leading one.

What a journey.

Each appointment includes detailed service instructions so you know where you’re going, what the customer needs, and what needs to be done. We give you the tools and information to make your job as easy and stress-free as possible.

🍔 Ready for lunch? Take a break.
Stop, grab something to eat, recharge, and then keep going.

📅 Need some flexibility? That’s part of the job.
We schedule customers in two-hour windows, which gives us flexibility throughout the day. Have your child’s school activity? A doctor’s appointment? Want to have a special lunch with your spouse? Let us know ahead of time, and we’ll block that time on your schedule.

Today, we pause to remember September 11, 2001—a day that forever changed our nation.

We remember the innocent lives lost, the first responders who ran toward danger, the families whose lives were forever changed, and the countless acts of courage and sacrifice that followed.

Twenty-five years later, may we never forget how, in the midst of tragedy, Americans came together. We prayed together. We helped our neighbors. We stood united.

Today, we honor those we lost and those who served.

God bless their families, our first responders, our military, and the United States of America. 🇺🇸
