✨ Completing 51. Stepping Into 52. ✨

I pause with a grateful heart as I celebrate another year of life—51 years of lessons, growth, purpose, relationships, resilience, and becoming.

As I step into 52, I’m embracing this next chapter with intention and excitement. I’m looking forward to:
🌿 Deepening meaningful relationships
📚 Learning new things and continuing to grow
🌍 Creating more fun adventures and experiences
💼 Making elevated career moves and embracing new opportunities
❤️ Prioritizing wellness, joy, and balance
🙏🏾 Continuing to live and work from a place of purpose and gratitude

At this stage of life, I’m reminded that growth doesn't stop with age—it evolves. Every year gives us an opportunity to become more intentional about who we are, how we live, the relationships we nurture, and the impact we make.

I’m grateful for 51, but I’m excited about 52! 🎂✨

Here’s to a new year of purpose, adventure, learning, meaningful connections, professional elevation, and becoming even more of the woman I am called to be.

Cheers to 52! 🥂❤️

🎂 Today is my birthday! 🎉💜
Every year since becoming an adult, I have made it my business to schedule my annual physical and get my blood levels checked. It’s one of the ways I honor myself and the life I’ve been given.
I believe we have been given one body, one mind, and one life—and it is important to take care of them so they can take care of us.
Our physical health and mental health are deeply connected. Sometimes our bodies are telling us something before we even recognize it. Regular check-ups and appropriate bloodwork can help us become more aware of what is happening inside our bodies and give us an opportunity to address concerns early.
This birthday, I’m celebrating not only another year of life, but the responsibility and privilege of taking care of the life I have. ❤️
My birthday reminder to you:
🩺 Schedule your physical.
🧪 Know your numbers.
🧠 Check in with your mental health.
💧 Nourish your body.
🏃🏽‍♀️ Move your body.
😴 Prioritize your rest.
❤️ Give yourself the same care you so freely give to others.
Take care of your body—it supports your mind, your emotions, your relationships, and your dreams.
Here’s to another year of health, wellness, growth, purpose, and LIFE! 🥂🎂💜

Emotional Awareness and Intelligence!

One of the most important distinctions
An emotion is information—not an instruction.

Anger may tell me “something feels wrong.”
Fear may tell me “I perceive danger or uncertainty.”
Sadness may tell me “something matters and I may have experienced loss.”
Disgust may tell me “something feels unacceptable or aversive.”
Surprise may tell me “something unexpected happened.”
Happiness may tell me “this feels rewarding, meaningful, safe, or connected.”

But the emotion does not automatically determine what I should do next.
That is where emotional intelligence and regulation come in.

Dial 988 if in crisis or reach out to ESTEEM Counseling and Consulting Services, LLC.

Life experiences can throw us off balance. Grief, trauma, chronic stress, burnout, relationship challenges, financial strain, caregiving, and major life transitions can impact us mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, socially, and financially.
The good news? Your brain and nervous system are designed to adapt—but they also need opportunities to recover.
Pausing isn't a luxury—it's neuroscience.
10 Ways to Reset Your Brain, Body, and Life
🧠 1. Pause and Breathe Slow, intentional breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system (your "rest and digest" system), helping calm your brain and body.
💭 2. Reflect Before Reacting Journaling, mindfulness, or quiet reflection strengthens the prefrontal cortex, allowing you to respond thoughtfully instead of reacting impulsively.
🚶🏾‍♀️ 3. Move Your Body Exercise increases blood flow to the brain and releases endorphins, dopamine, and serotonin, improving mood, memory, and resilience.
😴 4. Prioritize Rest and Sleep During sleep, your brain clears metabolic waste, consolidates memories, regulates emotions, and restores healthy brain function.
🙏🏾 5. Reconnect Spiritually Prayer, meditation, worship, gratitude, and spending time in nature reduce stress hormones while increasing feelings of hope, purpose, and inner peace.
❤️ 6. Strengthen Healthy Relationships Positive social connection releases oxytocin—the "bonding hormone"—which lowers stress and promotes emotional safety.
🚧 7. Set Healthy Boundaries Boundaries reduce chronic stress, conserve mental energy, and protect your emotional well-being from unnecessary overload.
💰 8. Reduce Financial Stress Creating a realistic financial plan decreases uncertainty, giving your brain a greater sense of predictability and control.
🌿 9. Practice Gratitude and Self-Compassion Regular gratitude strengthens neural pathways associated with optimism and resilience, while self-compassion quiets the brain's inner critic.
🎯 10. Build Daily Wellness Habits Small, consistent habits create neuroplasticity—your brain's remarkable ability to form new neural pathways. Every healthy choice reinforces healthier patterns over time.

Fibroid Awareness Month 💜
Fibroids are more common than many people realize, yet so many women suffer in silence or are told that their symptoms are "normal." I know because I've been there.
At 38, I was diagnosed with uterine fibroids. By 42, I underwent a myomectomy to remove them. While the journey wasn't easy, I am incredibly grateful for the healthcare providers who listened, cared, and took my concerns seriously.
When I shared my symptoms with my primary care physician, I was immediately referred to an OB-GYN. I was fortunate to have not one, but two compassionate OB-GYNs who were committed to finding answers and creating the best treatment plan for me. Their diligence made all the difference.
If you're experiencing symptoms such as:
💜 Heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding
💜 Pelvic pain or pressure
💜 Frequent urination
💜 Fatigue or anemia
💜 Pain during in*******se
💜 Difficulty becoming pregnant or maintaining a pregnancy

Please don't ignore your body. You know your body better than anyone else. If something doesn't feel right, trust yourself.

💚Ask questions.
💚Seek a second opinion if needed.
💚Use your voice and continue to advocate for yourself until you are heard. You deserve compassionate care, answers, and treatment options.

As both a therapist and someone who has walked this journey, I also want to acknowledge the emotional toll fibroids can take. Chronic pain, uncertainty, changes in your body, fertility concerns, and repeated medical appointments can affect your mental health. Give yourself permission to grieve, seek support, and prioritize your emotional well-being alongside your physical health.

Let's continue breaking the silence around fibroids by educating, empowering, and supporting one another.

You are not alone. Your pain is real. Your voice matters.

As a therapist, it's hard to turn the therapy brain off ( sometimes 😂). Every conversation has me noticing attachment styles, defense mechanisms, communication patterns, unresolved trauma, and cognitive distortions... even when I'm just trying to enjoy dinner. Occupational hazard? But don't worry—I promise I'm not diagnosing you... probably. 😉🧠💙
