Seed & Oak Counseling is growing, and we’re moving!
Beginning in October, we’ll be welcoming clients into our new office space. This move marks an exciting new chapter for our practice and gives us more room to continue providing thoughtful, relationship-centered care to the individuals, couples, and families we serve.
We’re grateful to every client, clinician, colleague, and community partner who has been part of our growth. We look forward to sharing more details and welcoming you into our new home soon.
New space. Deeper roots. Continued growth.

Most accusations have a vulnerable need underneath them. “You’re ignoring me” might really mean, “I miss you. I need to know I matter to you. I’m scared I’m not important right now.”
The vulnerable version is harder to say because it requires us to let our partner see the softer, more exposed place underneath the protest. But it also gives our partner something to respond to. It creates a much better chance of closeness than criticism does.

When we're embarrassed or frustrated with our child’s outward displays of emotion, we often try to dismiss them. Even when these messages come from a place of love, they can still be counterproductive.

Sometimes, the most powerful ways we grieve are also the softest.

Words matter.
If you’re experiencing a strong emotion, pause and take a moment to consider which word you would use to describe it. But don’t stop there. Once you’ve identified the first word, try to come up with two more words to describe how you are feeling.
You might be surprised at the nuance and depth you discover when you label your emotions more accurately.
In the newest episode of ReThinking with Adam Grant, Adam and I discuss how getting granular with our emotions helps us to move forward and support ourselves when we’re facing empathic distress.
