We’re thrilled to announce Sanya Richards-Ross as the keynote speaker for the 7th annual Women’s Global Leadership Conference, themed Innovation Inspiration.

An Olympic champion, Emmy Award-winning broadcaster, entrepreneur, author and passionate advocate for women and mothers, Sanya has spent her career pushing boundaries and creating new paths forward.

With four Olympic gold medals and a bronze, Sanya built an extraordinary legacy as one of the greatest 400-meter runners in history. Since retiring from competition, she has continued to innovate and inspire through her work in sports broadcasting, entrepreneurship and advocacy, including founding MommiNation, a community dedicated to supporting and empowering Black mothers.

Her journey from the track to the broadcast booth, the boardroom and beyond is a powerful reminder that leadership doesn’t have to follow a single path. Sometimes, the greatest impact comes from imagining what’s next and having the courage to pursue it.

Building Community, Leading with Purpose When it came to the college search for Kimberly Hernandez ’28, Agnes Scott College passed the vibe check. Born and raised in the Atlanta-area, first-generation college student Hernandez knew there was no shortage of colleges and universities in the area, but ultimately she was attracted to Agnes S...

When most people think of research, they picture a lab. But this summer, Agnes Scott's STEM Scholars proved that groundbreaking discoveries can begin with an equation.

Working alongside Dr. Bella Tobin, Akeelah B. '29 and Jibek I. '28 (not pictured) explored the world of arithmetic dynamics, a branch of pure mathematics that studies how mathematical functions behave when they're repeated over and over again. Their research focused on identifying post-critically finite polynomials, special functions whose critical points eventually return to values they've reached before. While highly theoretical, this type of mathematics helps build the foundation for understanding dynamical systems, which appear everywhere from weather forecasting to physics.

Along the way, the scholars discovered that mathematical research is about much more than solving equations. They developed algorithms using computational tools, learned coding techniques to test mathematical ideas and tackled concepts that are typically introduced at the graduate level. For Akeelah, it was her first opportunity to experience what research in pure mathematics truly looks like and how creativity, persistence and abstract thinking come together to solve complex problems.

This summer, a group of first-year Scotties traveled to South Carolina with Assistant Professor of Public Health Dr. Atticus Wolfe for a research residency through the University of Georgia and Penn Center.

Through place-based research and hands-on learning, students explored the history, culture and stories of the Gullah Geechee community while learning alongside students and faculty from colleges and universities across the region.

"It was an outstanding experience that was truly transformative for these brilliant students," say Dr. Wolfe.
