Come out and join the festivities today for this educational and entertaining event!

Planning to join us Saturday? Here’s how to make the most of your visit.

Muskets to Machine Guns runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday, but you don’t have to stay all day to experience plenty of living history.

If you’re planning your visit, arrive around 9:40 a.m. and stay through the 12:30 p.m. firing demonstration. Here’s what you’ll catch:

Around 9:40 a.m.
Arrive early and enjoy music from the 287th Army Band as everyone gathers on the Parade Ground.

10 a.m.
The day officially begins with the presentation of colors and music from the 287th Army Band.

10:45 a.m.
Join the Battery Walking Tour to Point and Mortar. Meet at the flagpole for an approximately 30-minute walk into another part of Fort DuPont’s history.

Throughout the morning
Explore the Parade Ground and meet reenactors, living historians and participating organizations. You’ll find military displays, civilian interpretation, historic skills, artifacts and demonstrations representing generations of history.

And remember to look up. We’re expecting a special visitor in the air during the morning.

Come hungry.
Maddy’s Kitchen will serve breakfast until 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch. Angel’s Kitchen begins serving lunch at 11 a.m.

12:30 p.m. | Firing demonstration
WWII reenactors will present a controlled blank-firing demonstration. It will be loud, so families with young children and anyone sensitive to sudden sounds should plan accordingly.

Want to stay longer? Keep exploring throughout the afternoon and catch the final firing demonstration at 2:45 p.m. The event closes at 3 p.m.

A few things to know before you come:

Parking will be available in designated areas near the Parade Ground. Follow event signage when you arrive. The event program includes a map with parking areas and locations for food, seating, information, first aid and the accessible restroom.

Tables and folding chairs will be available in the general seating area, but feel free to bring a camping chair or blanket and settle in. Comfortable walking shoes are also a good idea, especially if you plan to join the Battery Walking Tour.

Muskets to Machine Guns: A Day of Living History
Saturday, Sept. 19
10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Fort DuPont Parade Ground, Delaware City
Free | All ages | Rain or shine

Can’t stay all day? Come around 9:40 a.m. and stay through 12:30 p.m. You’ll hear the Army Band, take in the opening ceremony, explore the living history displays, have time for the Battery Walking Tour and lunch, and finish with the firing demonstration.

Make Fort DuPont part of your Saturday plans.
