Common Ground Free Store Ministries
A warm and welcoming store where everyone can shop free of charge: clothing, shoes, household items, toys, and personal care items, and misc.
Meals are available in our dining room and carry out. We believe God's mercy doesn't come with a price tag. Our store is a warm and welcoming place run by volunteers where needed items are available to everyone, FREE - from clothing, shoes, diapers and linens, to small appliances, books and toys. There are no income requirements, no questions and no scrutiny - only the support of people who care. Everyone is on common ground.

We need volunteers. A bunch of volunteers.
Every time Common Ground is open, we need about 20 volunteers to make it all happen—sorting donations, stocking shelves, helping shoppers, serving meals, and keeping everything moving.
You don’t have to volunteer every week. You don’t need special skills. You don’t even have to know what you’re doing when you walk in. We’ll show you the ropes. We just need people to show up!
If you’ve been looking for a sign to get involved or volunteer, here’s your sign. 👀
Pick a shift. Bring a friend. Give us a few hours.

Five minutes before closing, a woman called the Free Store and asked if we still had food.
“Plenty,” we told her.
She said she was walking and was about seven minutes away.
Our Director of Operations told her, “I’ll wait for you.”
She had just finished her second job and called home, only to find out there was no food. Payday wasn’t until Friday.
She asked if we had five meals she could take home.
Then she said, “I don’t need to eat.”
She walked through our doors with tears in her eyes.
We didn’t give her five meals. We gave her eight, along with other food to help get her family through the week.
She thanked us over and over. But before she left, she just wanted a hug. And so we hugged.
What she did not know is that some of the food she was taking home had been prepared and served just hours earlier by a group of women who simply wanted to love their neighbors well.
Gina Paul and her dinner club spent the evening serving at the Free Store. Several members who couldn’t attend still sent food for the meal.
Last night, their generosity, along with several other faithful food providers, helped put food on the table for a family who needed it desperately.
Sometimes people come to us needing more than a meal. They need to know they are seen, that someone cares, and that they are not alone.
Thank you, Gina and your dinner club, for being part of that last night. ❤️
This is what loving our neighbors can look like: a meal, a helping hand, and sometimes, a hug at exactly the right moment.

We are moving to St. Mark’s! 📦
Zion UCC, under the leadership of Pastor Jon Peterson, housed A Place of Warmth for eleven winters, until the need in our community outgrew the space. St Mark’s Lutheran Church is opening its doors this winter to continue this mission of providing warmth to our community on the coldest nights.

Common Ground Free Store matters to our community.
Last night a shopper who had lost everything came in and shared that she didn’t even have hangers for the few things she had. We gave her hangers right off the rack, and she was so touched, she cried.
We also received bags of much-needed items for new moms, and we served 137 meals.
From hangers to baby essentials to a hot meal, we are meeting real needs every day. The Free Store is here for people at some of their most vulnerable moments - when they don’t know what to do or where else to turn.
If you ask us what our greatest need is right now, it’s volunteers. We need about 20 volunteers every time we’re open to keep the Free Store running and meet the needs of our neighbors.
Please consider joining us. You’ll not only be giving your time - you’ll have the opportunity to love your neighbor in real, practical ways, right when they need it most.
Every minute you give makes a difference. ❤️
