Last summer, Nagomi Katano had the opportunity to go to the Swiss embassy and the New Zealand embassy in Washington, D.C. through The Fund for American Studies. She was able to learn about opportunities for students and attended seminars about current political situations and potential solutions. Then, with her internship at the Alliance of Innovation and Infrastructure, Nagomi was tasked with writing blog posts, assisting in research, improving their website, and creating a marketing video featuring some of Washington D.C.’s most famous destinations. These incredible experiences helped Nagomi form a clearer vision of her future goals and further develop her writing and research skills.

Over the course of last summer, Luisa Pereira Duarte worked at Goldman Sachs as an equity derivatives confirmations summer analyst. During this experience, she was tasked with updating key data sets, gathering inputs for confirmations reporting, writing workflow guides, collaborating with teams, and building an interactive dashboard used to track and analyze trade confirmations. Every two weeks, Luisa presented “Global Markets in the News” to share her perspectives on how major economic/financial events could affect the equity derivatives business. This hands-on experience allowed her to strengthen her technical skills and develop a better understanding of how large financial institutions operate.

Last summer, Jera Hoy worked as a corporate tax student intern at Grief, a business-to-business packaging manufacturer. Growth and challenge were prevalent throughout this internship while she worked on rolling over RTPs, filing local municipality returns and vouchers, researching CAMT, updating the valuation allowance analysis workbook, and studying the One Big Beautiful Bill to see potential impacts on the company. At Grief, Jera grew her leadership skills and made valuable connections that will last a lifetime. This experience helped her rediscover her love for law while discovering the various paths within tax law.

This past summer, James O’Connor was an information systems student intern at The MetroHealth System, a public health care system located in Cleveland, Ohio. His responsibilities for this position were maintaining Epic Systems within the hospital, participating in project calls, observing the implementation of two third-party AI vendors, and building a predictive model for hospital readmission risk, as well as a badge tap software project. During this internship and Summer on the Cuyahoga events, James was able to network with professionals, put his elevator pitch into practice, and learn more about the information systems industry.

Last summer, Gabe O’Reilly spent his second year as a student intern at DiPerna and Company, a Columbus-based boutique investment banking firm. His role this summer was elevated as he was entrusted with greater responsibilities, solo projects, and more intricate assignments. Throughout the course of this internship, he was tasked with handling term sheets, creating comprehensive financial models, monitoring deal team tasks, and completing a variety of administrative tasks. Gabe used his experience from last summer and his theoretical knowledge from his classes here at Ohio Wesleyan to guide his success at DiPerna and Company.

This past summer, Evaleigh Garnett had the opportunity to work as a financial advisor for her internship at Northwestern Mutual, allowing her to gain real-world experience in both client interaction and financial planning. She was tasked with calling and scheduling meetings with potential clients and developing customized plans based on each of these clients’ individual goals. This experience allowed Evaleigh to work with a diverse range of clients and helped make her more confident in her ability to design and present financial strategies. After just her first summer as an intern, she was recognized as one of the top 100 interns in the nation. She continued this internship throughout this past year and is currently on track to be recognized as one of the top 10 interns in the nation!

Last summer, Connor Lasch took his talents to Florence, Italy, to work for Plannest as a marketing and sales student intern. Plannest specializes in creating software that helps gyms and personal trainers expand their businesses and better connect with clients, which is perfectly aligned with Connor’s Business Marketing and Sport Management double major. During his time in Italy, he researched Italian and American markets, using his knowledge to implement new marketing strategies into Plannest’s website and social media, perform sales calls to United States prospects, and scrap potential clients. Despite the challenges of a language barrier, Connor was able to thrive in this new environment using communication, teamwork, and time management skills.

Over the course of last summer, Brianna Montgomery worked at The Intergenerational School in Cleveland, Ohio, as an enrollment and marketing student intern. Her main responsibilities were helping new families learn about the school, explaining the enrollment process, beginning to implement a new alumni network, attending community events, and assisting in executing marketing strategies. During this internship, Brianna learned a lot about school operations, clear communication, and the significant role relationship-building plays in marketing. She was grateful to learn about how this network of top-performing, tuition-free public charter schools strives to grow a mission-driven community.

Last summer, Brianna Colangelo worked as a student intern at the West Side Market, Cleveland’s largest and oldest continuously operating public market. For this non-profit, Brianna pitched content ideas, expanded social media accounts, planned content schedules, and even listened to marketing pitches from the Guardians, Cavs, MetroParks, and PlayHouse Square! She enjoyed this fast-paced atmosphere, which allowed her to sharpen communication skills, adapt to change, delegate tasks, collaborate with others, and better understand the importance of strengthening the community.
