Grow Local Colorado

For the past 14 years we have partnered with CSU Denver Extension's Master Gardeners. These knowledgeable, fun and passionate folks are such an asset to our gardens. They share their wealth of wisdom with our other volunteers, adding a bonus to helping in our gardens.

This season we had the pleasure of having Farmer Bob (a nickname bestowed upon him by Cory Elementary students) help in a few of our gardens. Today he taught Cory students how to harvest a variety of veggies. Thank you, Bob, for making our community healthier and happier.

Junior League of Denver helped us tend some of our gardens on Saturday. CBS came out to cover the work they accomplished. Many thanks to Junior League of Denver for your help and commitment to supporting local nonprofits.

Junior League of Denver supports metro area nonprofits through annual Day of Service On Saturday, the Junior League of Denver gathered at nonprofits across the metro area to hold events for the community, donate supplies and more.

This spring we helped Safehouse Denver build a raised garden. It has been a big success. Their staff shared this:

We are so grateful for your generous donation. The survivors have really been enjoying and utilizing the vegetables in so many ways. They've been making zucchini bread, fresh salads, and incorporating the basil into all kinds of meals. It's been wonderful to see the produce being used and appreciated so much.

We Tend to Grow: Garden Harvest & Fermentation Workshop Join Slow Food Denver and Grow Local CO on Sept 26 for a harvest, ferment-filled breakfast & hands-on class! Make & take home a jar of custom ferments.

Our co-director, Linda Kiker, has been inspiring gardeners to save seeds and share them with their community for a few years. She hosted another locally grown seed packaging event on Sunday. 30 volunteers spent 3 hours packing 460 envelops of seeds for our community. Such a gift of love and compassion. Locally grown seeds are essential to a sustainable and healthy future.

What a productive and fun morning with Graland Country School students. These lovely children helped us harvest at our Green Akers garden as well as spread mushroom substrate and apply compost tea.

Nothing like an energetic and dedicated group of volunteers to bring joy to a morning. Junior League of Denver helped us tend two of our gardens this morning, before the rain began. They harvested over 150 lbs of fresh, nutrient dense food which was delivered to Community Ministry of Southwest Denver. Special thanks to Lindsey, CM's director, who came out and shared CM's mission. JLD also trimmed out all the powdery mildew leaves on the squash and cucumber plants, weeded, planted lettuce, applied compost tea and spread mushroom substrate. You ladies are fantastic. Thank you for a productive and fun morning.
