Ballots are in the mail. It is time to talk about the most important local race on yours.
The Southern Colorado Labor Council endorses Allen Medina for Pueblo County Sheriff.
Allen is a retired sheriff's deputy. A US Army veteran. A parole officer. And a dues-paying union member who has spent his career in public safety serving this community. He knows what it means to do this work. He knows what it means to have a union fighting for you.
His opponent has spent two years fighting his own deputies. When IBPO Local 837 formed with a 139 to 2 vote, Dave Lucero refused to bargain with them. The state found him guilty of an unfair labor practice. He appealed. The state said no. Then he sued his own deputies' union with $45,000 of your tax dollars. That lawsuit is still active today.
Pueblo deserves a sheriff who stands with the people who protect this community, not one who takes them to court.
Allen Medina is one of us. Vote like it.
Ballots must be returned by June 30. Drop yours at any Pueblo County drop box or return it by mail.

President Trump's executive order to replace federal workers with loyalists betrays a foundational American value: that our government works for the people, not for a political agenda.
We will keep standing in the way of this attack on federal workers. https://aflcio.org/press/releases/afl-cio-condemns-executive-order-replace-federal-workers-political-loyalists

Polis protects system rigged against workers | Guest Column in Colorado Politics 6/3/2026 by Jeremy Ross, Secretary-Treasurer of the Colorado AFL-CIO
“The system is rigged against workers, and it has been this way for too long. These powerful interests have protected a Colorado-specific law requiring a second supermajority election for workers to form a strong union. The Worker Protection Act was designed to eliminate that unnecessary and difficult barrier.”

Gov. Polis vetoed a bill designed to keep Colorado’s roads and communities safe while giving time to understand the impacts of autonomous commercial vehicles. This comes as congress is trying to stop states like Colorado from being able to regulate commercial vehicles - which is a huge problem for a state like Colorado that has challenging terrain.
