Colorado voters have some serious decisions to make this fall.

Propositions 134 and 135 are harmful, overreaching measures that could put LGBTQ+ youth and Colorado children at risk. These proposals are poorly written, dangerously broad, and would insert politics into decisions that should center young people, families, and their well-being.

For the next five weeks, we’re breaking down the myths, explaining what these measures would actually do, and showing what’s at stake for communities across Colorado.

The federal government has rolled back Title IX protections for transgender students, including protections related to gender identity discrimination and participation in school programs and activities.

But here in Colorado, students still have protections under state law.

Colorado independently prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. Students who experience discrimination can file a complaint with the Colorado Civil Rights Division and may have additional options through Colorado courts.

Federal protections have changed. Colorado protections remain.

This fall, Colorado voters will decide on measures that could have serious consequences for kids and families.

Measure 134 could subject young girls to invasive scrutiny simply because someone questions whether they belong on a team. Measure 135 creates a sweeping restriction with no exceptions and no appeals for families when the government gets it wrong.

Over the next 6 weeks, we’ll be sharing more about these measures, their consequences, and the other ballot issues One Colorado has taken positions on.
