Last week we celebrated the opening of the People’s Mansion - a large cooperative home in a mansion that was formerly a butler school.
Watching people transform a space where communities can gather, collaborate, and imagine a more cooperative future is a powerful reminder that change happens when people choose to build something better together. The chant says it best: “Whose house? Our house!” 🏡
At LiveWork Denver, that idea resonates deeply. We’re working to make shared ownership a real option for more people because we believe homeownership should be accessible to more people seeking stability and abundance. Turning that vision into reality takes persistence, partnership, and a belief that there’s a better way.
This Independence Day, we’re reflecting on the idea that freedom isn’t just about independence—it’s also about access, opportunity, and community. We believe collective ownership can be a pathway to greater financial freedom, stronger communities, and the chance for more people to build wealth together.

For generations, q***r people have been building chosen families.
Long before “intentional community” became a buzzword, LGBTQ+ people were creating homes together out of necessity. When families rejected children for being different, they found one another. They shared housing, pooled resources, cared for each other through illness, celebrated together, and built the kind of family they had been denied.
Out of exclusion came extraordinary resilience. Out of necessity came creativity. These communities didn’t simply survive—they created entirely new ways of living, caring for one another, making art, celebrating identity, and imagining what family could look like. They became communities of resilience, creativity, and mutual aid that continue to inspire us today.
That history reminds us that community housing isn’t some new experiment. Whether we call them communes, housing cooperatives, cohousing communities, or shared homes, people have always found ways to live together when existing systems failed to care for them.
As we rethink the future of housing, it’s worth remembering that some of the most powerful models weren’t born in boardrooms or development firms. They were born from people choosing one another. They remind us that home isn’t just a place—it’s a practice of belonging. ***rhousing

For most of human history, sharing resources wasn't a trend—it was simply how communities worked.
Many of the things we spend money, space, and energy maintaining are only used occasionally. Lawns, tools, guest rooms, garages, workspaces—what if some of them could be shared instead?
Sharing can reduce costs, create connection, and free up resources for the things that matter most. Sometimes abundance isn't having more. It's having access to enough.

What if we've been measuring abundance all wrong?
For generations, the dream has been bigger homes and more private space. Yet some of life's richest experiences happen in the spaces we share—with neighbors, friends, artists, and community.
Meaningful connection, beautiful shared spaces, and opportunities to belong can create a sense of abundance that no amount of square footage can replace.
As we imagine new ways of living together, we're inspired by a simple idea: a rich life isn't built by the size of our homes, but by the strength of our connections.

We think it’s equally important to talk about what happens inside and around them.
Third spaces—the cafés, parks, libraries, studios, markets, community centers, and neighborhood gathering places we share—play a critical role in creating connection, belonging, and community resilience.
In a time when loneliness and disconnection are on the rise, these spaces matter more than ever. They are where relationships form, ideas are exchanged, and strangers become neighbors.
