Alabama Forestry Commission gets OroraTech’s satellite-based wildfire intelligence 🇺🇸

They are using our thermal intelligence to monitor prescribed burns more closely and to support wildfire response across the state. This gives officials more visibility into fire activity.

It has been a demanding fire year in Alabama. More than 30,000 acres had burned by mid-September, close to the roughly 35,000 acres burned in all of 2025 and well above the nearly 21,000 acres burned in 2024.

🛰️ But now, they can spot potential escapes, assess incidents, and decide where and when a response is needed, which means prioritizing faster and making better-informed decisions.

As Rick Oates, Alabama State Forester, said, “Adopting the latest technology helps us detect and respond to wildfires more efficiently while improving safety for our firefighters and the people of Alabama.”

We added FengYun-3F (FY-3F) to our Wildfire Solution 🎉 Maintaining critical overpass coverage and timely wildfire updates as public missions!

Missions like Suomi-NPP (VIIRS) and MODIS on Terra and Aqua are nearing end of life. As they retire, we lose the trusted mid-morning and late-evening overpasses that continuous fire monitoring depends on.

So we're filling the gap 🛰️

We now receive data from FY-3F via direct broadcast, through its MERSI-3 instrument, and turn it into fire detections in the platform, right next to the public and OroraTech sensors you already use.

What does it mean on the ground?
✅️ Overpasses at 10:00 and 22:00.
✅️ 1000 m resolution, comparable to MODIS.
✅️ 5–15 minute latency, depending on location.

FY-3F is available now for the Western US and Eastern Australia, with more regions coming soon.

Meet the team that coordinates wildfire response for Québec’s Eastern region! We recently travelled to Baie-Comeau to spend time with SOPFEU’s regional team and get closer to the reality of wildfire operations in one of the most remote parts of Québec.

🛰 The Eastern region is vast and reaches far up North into remote and difficult-to-reach areas. That’s where satellite intelligence becomes more than another data source.

The team uses OroraTech data throughout the life of a fire: to evaluate new detections, understand which parts of a large fire are active, monitor changes between flights and help validate when a fire is actually out.

So much expertise sits behind every decision. Some team members fly over fires, observing smoke, fire behavior, and fuel. Others coordinate logistics, move resources and keep equipment and mobile infrastructure ready to deploy.

🇨🇦 Well into our sixth fire season working together, we’re still learning from each other, and we’re still building what’s next together.

Moving from satellite to infrastructure. We’re to deploy up to 96 payloads with .

At the International Space Summit in Paris, held at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, our CEO, Martin Langer, announced a strategic partnership with to reserve capacity for 48 thermal infrared payloads aboard Eutelsat’s future Low Earth Orbit infrastructure, with an option for 48 more.

Eutelsat brings large-scale European LEO infrastructure. We bring operational thermal intelligence: the payloads, technology and analytics platform that turn observations from space into actionable intelligence on Earth.

🤝 Together, we have a scalable and efficient way to expand our thermal intelligence network, without launching a dedicated satellite for every sensor.

More sensors mean more frequent observations, faster detection and a more persistent view of what is happening on our planet. Wildfires are an immediate and critical application, but the same infrastructure can support environmental intelligence, critical infrastructure monitoring, maritime awareness and security applications.

🇪🇺 The partnership also reflects something bigger: the growing strength of Franco-German cooperation in space and a shared ambition to strengthen Europe’s technological capabilities and sovereignty.

Supported by the French and German governments, we are bringing together complementary capabilities from both countries to take another major step towards European thermal intelligence infrastructure at scale.

More thermal cameras in orbit 🎉

FOREST-20 is set to join our proprietary constellation, our second full satellite launch this year.

🛰️ Once in orbit, it will bring our proprietary fleet to 20 satellites and sensors, adding more thermal coverage, more frequent revisits, and more data for faster wildfire detection worldwide.

🔧 Integration is already complete at Exolaunch, our long-standing launch partner. The satellite is targeted to lift off aboard 's Falcon 9, on the Transporter-18 rideshare mission no earlier than October 2026.

More coverage means more data and faster answers when it matters most.

Can you spot where one satellite's data ends and another's begins?

On 6 August, six of our FOREST satellites, FOREST-4, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, passed over a near cloud-free stretch of the Western United States and together captured a combined thermal view of roughly 700 by 700 kilometers around Yellowstone National Park.

No visible seams, no post-processing, and no manual color correction applied: our OTC-P1 satellites aligning with a consistency that reflects the calibration built into every unit of the constellation.

The Yellowstone composite is not an isolated case.
Many recent thermal views from OTC-P1 show no spatial gaps in thermal coverage, no need for post-processing.

As our proprietary constellation continues to grow, this consistency becomes increasingly significant. It means broader, more frequent views of the Earth's surface can be assembled from multiple satellites without compromises on accuracy.
