Community Member of the Month: Lynn S. from Fruita, CO

Lynn started knitting when she was just 10 years old and fondly remembers the aunt who taught her, sitting in front of a mirror as she was left-handed. She later discovered crocheting, which quickly became her true love. One year she made 27 pairs of socks for friends and family members!

Lynn found Knitting4Peace through a flyer that fellow parishioners had brought back to her local church after having gone to a conference. As a retired social worker, Lynn was looking for new outlets for helping others and she loved the idea of making items for those in need. That was over 12 years ago and Lynn is still happily crocheting and regularly sending items to Knitting4Peace.

Lynn sees making items to donate as a “labor of love.” She well remembers being a young mom with 3 children and knows how wonderful it would have been to have brought home a blanket with a new baby. Lynn’s granddaughter also spent time in a NICU so she understands the unique challenges of that experience and how meaningful it is to have a special blanket to wrap a tiny baby in after such a difficult time. These are the images Lynn has in her mind as she crochets baby blankets, along with hats and scarves, to pass along to others.

Let's Make A Quilt!

One of the ways we’re celebrating twenty years of bringing comfort and peace, is to gather blanket squares to make into baby blankets. In the spirit of community, we’re asking members of our Knitting4Peace community (that’s you!) to contribute a square or two!

Guidelines for 20th anniversary baby blanket squares:
colors - blues, yellows, greens, pinks or mauve, to match our 2026 Create-A-Thon colors
craft – knitting or crochet
size - 10” x 10” square
yarn - washable worsted yarn
pattern – your choice! but no lacy patterns, please
finishing - please block your square and weave in all the ends

Please send in your square(s) to Knitting4Peace by September 30th. Leave the assembly to us!

We all have so much in common and want to see a better world, so let's get together and chat about it. There is no reason for a loneliness epidemic within our community.
