Addressing the root causes of poverty in urban Denver

Today we’re reflecting on provision & El Roi, the God who sees. ✨

In this passage, Jesus had just finished teaching and went away on the boat to have some alone time. But once he got close to the shore, people recognized him and he had compassion on them.

He began to teach them until it was too late and people were hungry. He did not let the disciples buy them food, but he provided it for them himself. 🍞🐟

El Roi, the God who sees, and Jehovah Jireh, the God who provides. The lilies do not toil or spin, yet are more adorned than Solomon in all his glory.

At Open Door, through your generosity, God is abundantly providing for every need. He provides a warm place to rest, a safe space to live, dinner to eat, and friends to journey with. Are you in need of provision that you haven’t asked God for? 🙏🏼This week, pray for His provision over your life and see how He satisfies you.

Alas, we are losing another amazing member of our community and sending her off with our blessing. Ashlyn originally came to Open Door as a mom-to-be at Te Veo House. Once she had her daughter, Aria, she transitioned over to Treasure House. Eventually, she came on staff and worked on the development team and also assisted with programs. Ashlyn, thank you for trusting us to speak into your life and for also being a great team member. It has been a privilege to watch you grow and blossom into the woman of God that you are. You will be missed!! 🥹🥲

Today we are reflecting on the miracle of faith. Here is a word from Mark 10.
Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of Timaeus”), was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.

“What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.” “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.
Though the crowd tried to silence Bartimaeus, Jesus heard his cry and stopped. Bartimaeus called Jesus “Son of David.” Although he could not see Jesus with his eyes, he recognized who Jesus truly was, the coming Messiah.

At Open Door, we share life with people who are often overlooked or pushed to the margins. Yet among our community, we witness some of the deepest and most persistent faith we have ever seen. Jesus sees those that others overlook, and he never turns away from someone who calls on Him.

Today we are invited to call out to Jesus, and listen when he asks, “What do you want me to do for you?” The One who heard Bartimaeus still hears us today. In faith we keep turning toward Jesus, trusting that He alone can make us whole.
