A 1967 home. An electrical panel. And a few purple connectors that deserve a closer look.

These AL/CU connectors caught our attention because they can be a clue that aluminum branch wiring is present.

Noticing little details like this is critical with inspections. Buying an older home? Know what you’re working with.

Welcome to the team, Tony!

Tony brings hands-on inspection and real estate experience to ABP, along with the kind of attention to detail and practical perspective that fits right in with our team.

We’ve had the chance to inspect some exceptional properties lately, and this indoor tennis court was a fun one to walk into.

The court is impressive, but the real showstopper is the wood structure overhead. Those arched supports, exposed beams, and tongue-and-groove ceiling are the kind of details that make you slow down for a second before getting back to the checklist.

Beautiful buildings still deserve a careful inspection. Sometimes they just make the job a little easier to enjoy.

Can this wall go?

Sometimes the framing gives us a pretty good clue, but a clue isn’t confirmation.

Joist direction, beams, bearing points, and how the structure lines up from one level to the next can all help tell the story of where the load is going.

Before removing or altering a wall, have the load path confirmed by a qualified structural professional.

Follow the load, but confirm before you remove!

Clear communication is a key part of a great inspection.

Nice work, Erik, for being thorough, explaining the sewer scope clearly, and making sure the client had time to get their questions answered. We appreciate the kind words and the trust.

At 10 years in, Alpine Building Performance is solidly not a startup anymore.

Which makes being back at Colorado Startup Week a little funny and still genuinely energizing. It has been a few years since we’ve attended, and this week feels like the right time to be in the room again.

We have some exciting innovation in the works at Alpine, and sessions like these are a good reminder that improving a business is a lot like improving a building: observe carefully, ask better questions, and don’t assume the existing system is as good as it can get.

What happens when decades of building science experience meet a new generation of technology?

We are proud to have recently been featured in 5280 Magazine for our work developing a free AI powered tool designed to help real estate agents and buyers identify potential property concerns before the official inspection.

The idea behind the tool is straightforward. Real estate professionals often need to make sense of a property long before an inspector arrives. By combining AI with the practical knowledge our team has developed through years of inspecting Colorado homes, we are exploring a new way to make building insight more accessible earlier in the transaction.

AI is not a replacement for a professional inspection. A home still requires the trained judgment, physical investigation, and context that an experienced inspector provides. But technology can help people ask better questions, recognize potential concerns sooner, and enter the inspection process better informed.

For Alpine Building Performance, innovation is not about chasing technology for its own sake. It is about finding better ways to apply credible building expertise to the real challenges agents and buyers face.

We appreciate 5280 Magazine for sharing our story and highlighting a Colorado born approach to the future of property due diligence.
