Daisy Fields Rattery
I'm an Ethical Rat Breeder in Denver, Colorado. I use this page to discuss my plans and show off rats
I don't know how much time I have with my Moody Girl left, so if I'm late on updates, responding to messages and sending pictures of your babies, please know that I'm trying to spend as much time with Mood as I can. She's completely blind now I think and unstable on her feet. She still loves life, she loves when she hears me call for my "Moody Girl" and she still runs as fast as she can to see me, only she wobbles and falls a lot. Here's a recent video of her, my Sun and Stars. Please bear with me, her loss is going to devastate me more than I even know I'm sure.

Just a shoutout post for SMOL Beans Rat Rescue. This is the most ethical rat rescue I have seen and I am blessed to call Sye my friend and work together with him to educate rat owners and provide temperamentally sound rats to Denver. He adheres to the same temperament standards I do for adoptable rats and he often has cages and supplies avaliable in exchange for donations to the rescue. (On top of the bundles we have avaliable together)

There is no shortage of bin cage hate, I will never understand it. It meets all basic needs and an 190 lb adult human can climb inside a 50 gallon bin cage and shut the lid over themselves.
I recently gave advice to a pet owner, and had a breeder make a comment that they would never approve an adopter who follows that advice.
They further mentioned that they have an adoption application they require as well as pictures of the cage.
(I require the same as any one of my adopters and breeder friends will tell you.)
I believe this comment was intended to be unkind towards me and my practices. But i think it's a good opportunity to educate and discuss.
In the past the rat breeding community has been outright nasty to each other. I’ve seen it get to the point that when breeders disagree on practices of any kind, that they blacklist each other.
This is ridiculous. Theres plenty of room in this hobby for people to disagree and do things differently.
I use bin cages for most of my rats and yes i think they are fine options for pet owners when made properly. You may not agree. Thats ok! In your rattery, you get to decide what is ok and what isnt when you adopt out your rats.
I don't agree with bioactive, paper, or fabric bedding and do not currently adopt out to people who use these unless there is a clear health issue causing that need. Others may be ok with this for anyone. And thats ok!
You may be strict about only adopting out to those who feed kibble instead of a mix. Thats ok too!
Theres plenty of room in this community for all of us. You dont have to agree with me, and i dont have to agree with you. Our choices on those things do not affect each other. Even more so if you live in a different state or part of the world.
adopters can and will pick who they want to work with based on what vibes with them. And thats ok too.
You do you, i’ll do me.
And if someone is nasty, well i just block and move on with my life. Its too short as it is.

NEW FOR LOCAL RAT ADOPTERS!
I’m excited to share a new project with SMOL Beans Rat Rescue to help adopters build toward their rats’ final cage setup!
These aren’t all-in-one starter kits. We have a variety of bundles and individual items to help you add enrichment and supplies over time. Everything varies in contents and price, with the current selection including:
• 1 Fox-themed Critter Nation cage set
• 1 Halloween-themed carrier + enrichment bundle
• 3 semi-mystery bags: pink, purple & dinosaur themed
• 4 individual blue-patterned 8" cubes — $15 each
Prices are listed directly on the photos, except for the 8" cubes, which are $15 each.
Hammocks, cubes and liners are homemade!
Proceeds are split evenly between Daisy Fields Rattery and SMOL Beans Rat Rescue, helping both of us continue providing the best possible care for our rats.
Everything is available while supplies last!
We also may have a couple cages avaliable, including one that is huge but would need to be wrapped for rats.

A little Daisy Fields update
I wanted to take a moment to share a small change to my adoption pricing. This is something I’ve put some thought into, because I know that bringing home a new little family member is an important decision.
As the cost of food, bedding, supplies, veterinary care, and raising litters continues to go up, I need to make a small adjustment to a few of my prices so that I can continue putting the same level of care and resources into my rats that I always have.
My updated pricing is now:
Standard — $50
Rex — $50
Velveteen — $50
Satin — $50
Silvermane — $60
Hairless — $60
Double Rex — $60
Double Velveteen — $60
Lux — $60
Harley — $70
Dwarf — $85
Werewolf — $100
Dwarf Werewolf — $125
No other pricing changes are being made at this time.
These prices are effective immediately. The website will be updated to reflect the new pricing once my pricing infographic has been updated by the artist, so you may see the old pricing displayed on the website temporarily. This post reflects the current pricing in the meantime.
I never want my pricing to be about simply putting a value on a particular appearance or gene. So much of what goes into a Daisy Fields baby happens behind the scenes — careful pairings, watching genetics, raising babies with intentional socialization, providing quality nutrition and enrichment, keeping my does' welfare at the forefront, and working toward healthier, happier lines for the future.
These changes are simply a reflection of the increasing costs of doing that work responsibly.
And I especially want to say something to my individual adopters.
One of the most rewarding parts of doing this has been getting to know the people who open their homes to my babies. I don’t see you as someone who simply purchased a rat from me. You’re the person who is going to become that little rat’s entire world — the one who learns their quirks, hears their happy bruxing, gets climbed on, receives tiny kisses, and eventually has a ridiculous number of pictures of them on their phone.
Getting updates from you, seeing the babies I raised settling into their new homes, hearing about their personalities, and watching those relationships grow is genuinely one of the things that makes all of the work worth it.
I’m so grateful that you trust me enough to let me be a small part of choosing your companions. And even after your babies leave my home, you’re still part of the Daisy Fields family. I’ll always be here to answer questions, celebrate milestones, troubleshoot the weird rat things, and cheer you on as you get to know your little ones.
Thank you for supporting me, my rats, and the work that goes into this little rattery. Every baby that leaves Daisy Fields takes a little piece of my heart with them, and I’m incredibly thankful for the people who give those babies wonderful lives.
Update: Her name is DAISY Frangelica
I will be reaching out to the waitlist and reviewing applications tomorrow! Here's a Harley Rex girl as tax. She needs an alcohol themed name.
