After years of hearing about the Urban Rangers’ kickball dynasty... ELK staff finally pulled off the upset. 🏆 Not to mention most of our muscles. Turns out age overtook beauty this year. 😎 We’ll be accepting congratulations until next year’s inevitable rematch.

We’re so grateful for another amazing day on the water! While we might not have been winning any trophies today, we still won in the most important ways as we expanded our summer of fun with one of our favorite partner organizations, FaithBridge!

Collaborations like ours remind us that strong communities are built one shared adventure, one conversation, and yes... one fish story at a time.

Our Urban Rangers are getting so mush hands-on conservation experience this summer! 🍄‍🟫

The Rangers recently visited Cal-Wood Education Center to help out with mushroom inoculation, or "mycelium bombs" — using native fungi to help decompose dead trees after the Cal-Wood fire in 2020. Some piles of logs are inaccessible to a mulcher or unable to be part of a prescribed burn due to fire restrictions during drought conditions, so mycelium bombs could prove to be a helpful forestry tool. Wood that would ordinarily take decades to break down can decompose within just a few years with the help of these mushrooms. This process can improve soil health, retain moisture, decrease erosion, and reduce the available fuel for future wildfires!

¡Nuestros Urban Rangers están adquiriendo muchísima experiencia práctica en conservación este verano! 🍄‍🟫

Recientemente, los Rangers visitaron Cal-Wood Education Center para colaborar en la inoculación de hongos, o la creación de "bombas de micelio", utilizando hongos nativos para ayudar a descomponer los árboles mu***os tras el incendio de Cal-Wood de 2020. Algunas pilas de troncos son inaccesibles para las máquinas trituradoras o no pueden incluirse en quemas prescritas debido a las restricciones vigentes durante las sequías; por ello, las bombas de micelio podrían resultar una herramienta forestal muy útil. La madera que normalmente tardaría décadas en degradarse puede descomponerse en tan solo unos pocos años gracias a la acción de estos hongos. ¡Este proceso mejora la salud del suelo, retiene la humedad, disminuye la erosión y reduce el combustible disponible para futuros incendios forestales!

Outdoor jobs don’t always have to take place in nature — marketing, IT, hospitality, and more make the outdoor world go round! The Rangers are realizing they can apply any of their skills and passions to a nearly limitless variety of careers that help make nature accessible and protect it for the needs and enjoyment of generations to come.

ELK's Urban Rangers swung into summer at Colorado State UniversityMountain Campus! 🌄

While they were there, they scaled the climbing wall and took a leap of faith on the giant swing — bold actions that proved the Rangers can do more than they ever believed they could. That's a message they'll carry with them throughout the season, as they strengthen their muscles doing trail work, gain experience facilitating programs, and open doors into careers they may never have imagined for themselves.

Los Urban Rangers de ELK tuvieron su orientación en el campus de montaña de Colorado State University. 🌄

Mientras estaban allí, escalaron el muro de escalada y dieron un salto de fe en el columpio gigante — acciones audaces que demostraron que los Rangers pueden hacer más de lo que jamás creyeron posible.
