Colorado Breastfeeding Coalition

Today, we celebrate 150 years of Colorado statehood. 🎉 But did you know Denver Health is even older?

Founded in 1860, we’re looking back on 166 years of caring for generations of Coloradans through epidemics, world wars, medical breakthroughs and more than a century and a half of growth and change.

We’re proud to have been part of Colorado’s story since the beginning and grateful to continue caring for our community today. 💙 Here’s a look at moments from our history, from some of the earliest days to today.

Happy 150th birthday, Colorado!

Two years after a skiing accident left him unable to walk for months, Rich Draves (pictured right) made it to the summit of Mount Everest. 🏔️

Following extensive injuries to both legs, Rich was transported to Denver Health’s Level I trauma center, where Cyril Mauffrey, MD, and our Orthopedic trauma team performed a complex surgery that began his long road to recovery.

Through months of rehabilitation, Rich remained focused on returning to the mountains. On May 25, he reached the top of the world at 29,031 feet.

“It’s so rewarding to see patients return to what they love to do, especially after such a significant injury,” Dr. Mauffrey said.
