Strategy Spotlight: Finding Space Between All and Nothing 10/07/2026

Students can easily fall into all-or-nothing thinking: a failed exam means they are going to fail the course, missing one assignment means they can never stay on top of their work, or anything less than perfect feels like failure. While this way of thinking may seem to provide clarity, it can also limit a student's ability to see the choices and possibilities available to them.

Coaches can help students find the “possible middle.” By asking questions that move students beyond extremes, coaches can help them identify realistic next steps, recognize evidence of progress, and consider what “good enough” or “some” might look like. Learning to move beyond all-or-nothing thinking can build greater agency in the classroom while developing the flexibility and problem-solving skills students need in the workplace. Coaching to Balance Authenticity and Practicality 09/26/2026

Students are entering a workplace where personal values and professional expectations do not always align. Gen Z may prioritize authenticity, self-care, and helping others, while employers may emphasize achievement, learning, and hard work. For academic coaches, this creates an opportunity to help students explore how they can remain true to their values while developing the skills and habits needed to succeed professionally.

Coaches can help students connect their academic choices to their purpose and long-term goals. From exploring how a major or career aligns with their values to understanding the importance of persistence, skill-building, and delayed gratification, coaching can help students see that preparing for the workplace does not mean giving up who they are. Interdependence is a Necessary Superpower 09/25/2026

Students are often taught to think of success as an individual achievement: solve the problem, earn the grade, figure it out on your own. But success in college and in the workplace, also depends on knowing when to ask for help, learn from others, and recognize the value of different perspectives.

Coaches can help students shift from working alone to learning through connection. By exploring when students ask for help, who they turn to, and how they view collaboration, coaching can help build the vulnerability, self-awareness, and confidence needed to work effectively with peers, mentors, managers, and colleagues. Interdependence is not a weakness—it is a skill for learning, earning, and growing. Learn more at: https://conta.cc/46K8FhT

Coaching Across the Campus 09/24/2026

Coaching is more than asking questions; it is a stance that treats students as capable of working through challenges while giving them the space to do the thinking. When coaching becomes a shared skill across campus, students begin to see problem-solving, self-awareness, and confidence as part of how they navigate college—not simply something they seek out when they need help.

Students don’t only learn from the people whose titles include “coach.” Every interaction across campus—from the front desk to the classroom to campus leadership—can become an opportunity to help students think critically, solve problems, and feel confident in their decision-making. Help make coaching a skill practiced at every level. Learn more at: https://conta.cc/4ryQtRZ

Coaching to Connect Academic Habits to Career Success 09/10/2026

Students often see college as a checklist: earn the grade, complete the credit, get the degree. But the habits they practice every day are shaping much more than their academic performance—they’re practicing the skills and behaviors they’ll carry into the workplace.

Coaches can help students make the connection between today’s choices and tomorrow’s success. From time management and follow-through to dependability, self-awareness, and human connection, the habits students build in college can become the foundation for a successful and sustainable career.
