With Deep Gratitude... Thank You, Prairie Meadows Casino, Racetrack & Hotel!

The S.A.F.E. Center of Iowa is profoundly honored and grateful to have been selected as a recipient of Prairie Meadows' 2026 Legacy Grant and Community Betterment Grant awards.

Through their extraordinary generosity, Prairie Meadows has awarded:

$440,000 through the Legacy Grant Program to help complete the construction of the S.A.F.E. Center of Iowa, bringing us one step closer to opening our doors and providing a dedicated, trauma-informed place of healing for survivors across our state.

$58,000 through the Community Betterment Grant Program to purchase critical forensic medical equipment that will support compassionate, high-quality forensic evaluations and enhance the care we provide to those we serve.

These remarkable investments are more than funding—it is a commitment to survivors, to justice, and to ensuring that every person who walks through our doors receives expert, compassionate care when they need it most.

Prairie Meadows' belief in our mission is helping transform a vision into reality. Because of partners like Prairie Meadows, countless individuals and families across Iowa will have access to specialized services that simply did not exist before.

Last week, we were honored to have Bill Knapp’s family visit the Safe Center of Iowa.

Bill’s legacy has long been associated with generosity, kindness, and a deep commitment to caring for others. His family’s meaningful gift in his honor reflects those same values and will help ensure survivors continue to receive compassionate, trauma-informed care when they need it most.

We are sincerely grateful for their support and for choosing to honor Bill’s legacy by investing in hope, healing, and dignity for others with the care we will provide at the SAFE Center of Iowa.

Today, as we celebrate our nation’s independence, we reaffirm our commitment to helping every survivor find safety, healing, justice, and the freedom to reclaim their future.

A few weeks ago, we were honored to be invited by Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate to serve on Iowa’s first-ever Human Trafficking State Task Force. This collaborative effort brings partners together to strengthen prevention, improve victim-centered responses, and work toward ending human trafficking across our state.

The work continues on July 30, World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, when The Safe Center of Iowa will join The Lighthouse Foundation in Fight for Freedoms to raise awareness, support survivors, and stand united against human trafficking.

As we celebrate the Fourth of July and the freedoms we cherish, we also recognize that for many, freedom remains out of reach.

We were honored to host their quarterly meeting and share about the work and services we will be providing to our community.

It was a wonderful day joining the Pride Fest parade and celebrating our community.

We truly appreciated the warm welcome and support from our Polk County friends, community partners, and local leaders who continue to support our mission and the work being done for victims across Iowa.

Collaboration allows us to provide the best possible support while always respecting the unique needs, choices, and comfort level of each individual. Our role is to ensure people have access to compassionate, trauma-informed care and support in whatever way feels right for them, whenever they are ready.

Creating a welcoming and inclusive space for all who need our services remains at the heart of our mission, and we are committed to continuing to show up for all Iowans with dignity, compassion, and care.
