Joe Rector Art
Joe Rector Art, prints, originals, inspirational Joe A Rector was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, the heart of Indian country.
He lived in Muskogee, then Tulsa, Oklahoma for most of his life, until he retired. He then moved to Destin, Florida to be near his children until the time of his death in 2012. His first drawings were done by looking at comic book characters and drawing them. As a teenage artist, he began to study all forms and styles of artwork on his own. Everything from commercial art and signs to fine art of various types, western art being his favorite. Having a great interest in physical fitness, Rector became a champion weightlifter, setting several state records, two national and one world record. He developed an appreciation for great strength and body development. Incorporating this appreciation with his deep spirituality into his artwork has brought about portrayals of the American Indian and other Western characters that show the great strength of the active, robust early American. A Rector "character" painting gives the impression of strength and power but still has the grace and beauty of lines that was portrayed by some of the "Old Masters" such as Michelangelo. Rector is listed on the State of Oklahoma's website as one of their "Famous Oklahomans". Rector was also recognized as one of the top "Movers and Shakers" in the book written by Victoria Lee celebrating Tulsa, Oklahoma's centennial.

Today would have been Joe A. Rector’s 91st birthday!
Some of you may not know all the different sides of the man behind the art.
Joe was a teacher, a weightlifter, a mentor, an artist and a true community-minded man. He was a man of many talents and many accomplishments, but what stands out most to me is the way he used those talents to impact the people around him.
He taught, created, encouraged, competed, and inspired.
He believed in hard work, creativity, and sharing what you knew with others. Whether he was standing in front of a classroom, working on a piece of art, lifting weights, or simply story telling with someone, he always left an impression.
Today, on what would have been his 91st birthday, I’m thankful for the life he lived, the lives he poured into, and the legacy he left behind.
Happy birthday, Dad. ❤️🎨💪
You were one-of-a-kind, and you are still remembered as a good man.

Who remembers the painting “Adam – The Creation of Man”?
It was one of the most iconic works displayed as you walked toward the back of the Joe Rector Art Gallery in Eastland Mall.
Painted in 1987, it served as the opening piece for the Journey Through the Bible exhibit. Later, it was featured on the cover of a 1994 brochure for the Journey Through the Bible Center on the campus of Oral Roberts University.
The Journey Through the Bible was an immersive, interactive presentation of biblical stories set in elaborately designed rooms. Phase One included the Creation Room and Noah’s Ark.
“Adam” marked the beginning. Visitors would enter a darkened space where the painting was illuminated by a single focused light while a voiceover read from Genesis:
“And God created man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life…”
The painting shows Adam being formed from the dust—depicted with tan skin, blue eyes, and black wavy hair, representing all of humanity. His hands and feet are still unfinished, while the hand of God reaches down from heaven, lifting him upward as he becomes fully formed.
In classic Joe Rector style, the figure carries strength and power. The surrounding light symbolizes the breath of life described in Scripture.
