Sadly, dogs being abandoned in Hines Park is something our team encounters far too often.

When these animals are found, our Mounted Unit cares for them at the barn giving them safety, comfort, and plenty of love until our partners at Tail Waggers Rescue can help them find a forever home.

The photo of this rescued dog looking up at one of our horses is a reminder that every animal deserves a second chance.

A special thank you to Tail Waggers Rescue for the incredible work they do for animals in our community.

Badges were traded for kickballs as Wayne County Sheriff’s deputies joined law enforcement partners from across the region for a friendly kickball competition supporting the Michigan Urban Youth League.

It was a great day of teamwork, community engagement, and fun—all in support of opportunities for local youth. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the event a success!

Sheriff Washington and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office were proud to join DWIHN and so many community members, providers, advocates, and partners for last weekend Mental Health Awareness Walk.

Events like this are an important reminder that mental health matters and that support, connection, and community can make a real difference. It was powerful to see so many people come together to help break the stigma and uplift one another.

The Detroit Grand Prix is back in downtown Detroit.

If you’re attending this weekend, plan ahead, expect road closures through June 4, and follow all posted traffic signs and detour routes. Allow extra travel time and stay alert while traveling in the area.

Deputies from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office will be out throughout the event, working alongside our public safety partners to help keep everyone safe.
