Thanks to the support of the 12 Detroit-based community organizations & artists had the opportunity to pop up at Eastern Market After Dark this year. The evening brought over 30,000 visitors to the market, giving exhibitors the chance to showcase their work, meet new collaborators & grow their audience.

From & in Shed 5 to & more in Shed 2, the 2026 cohort included representatives from neighborhoods across the city.

Hear from artist & organizer .events about their experience on the ground & follow to learn more about the impact of their work in Detroit’s creative spaces.

Design Moves the Future: Closing Symposium presented in partnership with Cranbrook Academy Of Art

Join us on Saturday, September 26 to hear from notable designers from Detroit & around the world on the ways their wielding design to shape the future for people in cities. The afternoon kicks off at the Detroit Public Library with presentations from Lichen [Lī-ken]] founders Jared Blake & Ed Be, designer Ayako Aratani & Sam Hecht + Kim Colin co-founder Kim Colin.

Designer talks will be followed by a moderated panel featuring Sina Sohrab Stefan Novakovic Ransmeier & Sebastian Bauer, Q+A session & networking opportunities.

After the Symposium, we’re celebrating the end of the festival on the Design Crawl with live music, eats, free activities & more at the Hellenic Museum of Michigan & Wayne State University Prentis Building from 5:30-8:30PM.

All closing day events are free & open to the public. Symposium has limited seating.

Friday Nights at The Station: Detroit Month of Design Takeover✨
Last week design showed up at Michigan Central with installations, live performance, fashion, art & community all under one roof. Cars at The Station sprawled across the lawn, RICK WILLIAMS + friends brought Metal Feet to the main stage, CULTURED MAGAZINE lead a City of Design Talk in the study & the festival’s design showcase captivated crowds.

Big thanks to everyone who came through & to all of the designers, artists & partners who brought the night to life.

Wednesday, Sept 23 ➡️ City of Design talk with our UNESCO City of Design guests from Designregio Kortrijk on the future of the textile industry.

Hear from Stijn Debaillie & Daphne Renier as they dive into the Tex Design project, a unique collaboration between major industry players & emerging designers.
The talk will be held onsite at LOLO’S HOUSE amidst the Spell Blanket exhibition, which travelled all the way to Detroit from Kortrik, Belgium, a UNESCO City of Design.
