It's pumpkin time!!!
We have just a FEW SPOTS left at our dried pumpkin class! The first frost is typically the first week ish of October and we have been BUSY this week (and all summer) storying up dried flowers for these beautiful pumpkins.

These pumpkins are fake which means your pumpkin will last for several years! The second picture is of a bunch of zinnias and dahlias drying out for this great class! (Not dried yet, these are freshly picked and placed on the drying rack).

If you have arachnophobia, scroll on and skip this post!

Have you ever been walking through the woods or driving an ATV of some sort and ran smack into a super thick spider web? Often about face level?

Have you seen the spider that makes the nest? It is often the CASTLEBACK ORBWEAVER spider and it looks like something that came from another planet. I had the pleasure of running our trails last week and running straight into one of these webs....fun fact about me: I do not enjoy spiders ANYWHERE CLOSE to me!

Fun Facts about the castleback:
* The female has a unique, bulbous abdomen with five pairs of sharp spines.
* They look intimidating but they are typically docile and are not a threat to humans.
* They eat the sticky, circular portion of their web each evening and rebuild a fresh one the next morning.
* Females typically have 5 pairs of spikes
* Their webs are often about 5-6' off the ground and across trails/open spaces.

NOT my picture - we have several on our property but my camera was not able to capture a great photo.

CHECK OUT THIS TROMBONCINO squash?! It's huge! We have a few more yet to harvest. This was new to our garden. When harvested young it is a lot like zuchinni. That is why we initially grew it - squash vine borer beetles often make it challenging to have a successful zuchinni crop here and tromboncino is resistant to them. What makes them resistant? They have solid stems not hollow like summer squashes.

Mid way through the season we learned that Tromboncino is actually a winter squash and when left to grow to full size can be used the same way you would a butternut or acorn type squash. These will be diced up and put in the freezer for later use this winter.

If you struggle with vine borers we highly recommend adding this variety to your garden next year!

We had a very busy week which kicked social media off the to do list. We had the honor of hosting two private u-picks, having our last class at Clock & Corbel (we do have dried pumpkins, dried hoops, and wreath making classes coming soon), and had the joy of helping a bride pick 5 buckets this morning for her wedding!

We will not be open tomorrow as the field recovers a bit from the wind and rain damage. We do plan to have a Sunday evening u-pick, Wednesday evening U-pick, and Saturday morning u-pick this week.

This has potential to be our final week! That doesn't seem possible!
