Delaware Health Information Network (DHIN) was the first live, statewide health information exchange in the nation.

DHIN, the nation's first statewide health information exchange, delivers more than 14 million results annually for more than 3 million patients in Delaware and beyond. Launched in 2007, today it serves all of Delaware’s acute care hospitals and nearly 100% of the state’s medical providers. More than 14 million clinical results and reports are delivered through DHIN each year. There are over three million unique patients with results on DHIN, including patients from all 50 states. DHIN shares real-time clinical information to improve patient outcomes, eliminate the duplication of services and reduce the cost of healthcare. In addition to its role as Delaware’s health information exchange, DHIN also powers the State’s Health Care Claims Database. The database collects healthcare claims, enrollment, and provider data from Medicare, Medicaid and the seven largest commercial health insurers in the State of Delaware, making it the single largest repository of claims data Delaware has ever had. The Delaware Health Information Network (DHIN) was enacted by the Delaware General Assembly in 1997 as a public-private partnership for the benefit of all citizens of Delaware to advance the creation of a statewide health information network and to address Delaware's needs for timely, reliable and relevant health care information.

What does cybersecurity really look like? It's usually not dramatic movie scenes or lines of code flying across a screen. More often, it's the everyday actions that help keep information secure: using Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), choosing strong passwords, recognizing suspicious emails and staying alert. Throughout Cybersecurity Awareness Month, DHIN will share practical tips and best practices to help strengthen your cybersecurity habits.

When people think about healthcare information exchange, hospitals often come to mind first. But a patient's healthcare journey can also include other care settings. As a result, healthcare information is created in many different places.

DHIN helps facilitate the secure exchange of health information from participating hospitals, physician practices, laboratories, radiology facilities and other healthcare organizations, supporting a more complete picture of a patient's healthcare journey.

Healthcare data may be measured in records, lab results and transactions, but at its core, it's about people.

Behind every healthcare encounter is someone seeking answers, receiving treatment, managing a condition or supporting a loved one.

That's why DHIN works to help make health information available when and where it's needed. Because better access to information can help support more informed decisions and a more connected healthcare experience.

A connected healthcare system starts with connected information.

Today, more than 3.52 million individuals have records in DHIN's Community Health Record (CHR).

Why does that matter?

Healthcare information is often generated across multiple providers, hospitals, laboratories and care settings. By helping make relevant health information securely available to authorized users, the CHR supports care coordination, reduces information gaps and provides a more complete picture of a patient's healthcare journey.

It's one example of how DHIN helps connect data to support better-informed healthcare decisions across Delaware.

Successful projects don't happen by accident. They require planning, communication and collaboration.

As a Project Manager at DHIN, Anthony Johnson helps bring those elements together, working with teams across the organization to support initiatives that strengthen health information exchange and improve healthcare across Delaware.

We're grateful for Anthony's dedication and commitment to our mission.
