About our galleries and building: Parke Green Galleries https://www.facebook.com/parkegreengalleries (N. Taylor Collins, Jan Crumpley & Susan S. Johnston) on the corner of South State Street & Dover’s historic Green. This historical building (the Parke Building), formerly the Sign of the Golden Fleece Tavern (1742 as an Inn & tavern, was named the Golden Fleece in 1749-1829) & then the Capitol Hotel (1831-1926). Most notably, when it was the Golden Fleece Tavern, it was used by the state legislature as meeting hall from 1777-1791 until the State House was finished being built, just 3 buildings down on the Green. In 1787, inside the Golden Fleece, Delaware became the FIRST STATE to ratify the Constitution and in 1790, Delaware became the 5th state to ratify the Bill of Rights.

If you’re downstate, be sure to check out the new exhibit at Gallery One. These are terrific artists. Bought first Laura Hickman back in the 80’s at Rehoboth Art League and the last one a couple of years ago at the historic outdoor show which is held each August. Taylor was a RAL member for about 30 years but husband’s MS got too much and had to cut back. Hoping to be part of a poetry group that meets there this winter. RAL’s just the best place ever for events and art. The independent galleries around the state are full-time working artists. Art collecting is fun!
Shadow World is now live at Gallery One, gathering ten evocative works that explore the quiet drama of light, form, and mystery. From Moon Shadow to Autumn Shadows in Tuscany, the exhibit moves through shifting atmospheres where stillness feels charged and every silhouette hints at a story. Visit Gallery One in Ocean View, DE now through October 27 to experience this richly varied collection of shadow‑driven artistry.

The Loockerman Street improvement upgrades are something we have been interested in since the inception. Tree removal was of a major concern and hope there are less trees to be removed. It has taken decades for that to be the shady street as more and more trees are gone and nothing replanted. Please join in the meetings and offer input as the downtown area has many historic sites and considerations.
What’s next for Downtown Dover? Come see for yourself.

Our Delaware Inland Bays are part of the Chesapeake Bay Estuary. We have many avid birdwatchers all around the areas as we have such an active migratory path here along the Delmarva Peninsula and such a rich habitat. Please do whatever you can to help voice concern and save any and all environmental acts that protect our natural regional settings. State regulations can only do so much and more far reaching efforts are always required.
