9 years of escaping New England winters… and wow, have our adventures changed! 🥹✈️🌎
In 2018, we took our first winter trip with a 3-month-old baby. Fast forward to 2026, and we’ve traveled across the world with two little girls who are growing up way too fast. ❤️
Over the years, we’ve chased sunshine in Vietnam and Costa Rica, road-tripped across the country with a baby and toddler, explored Southeast Asia and Australia, and even spent months living in Greece and Italy!
And somewhere along the way, we realized that escaping winter doesn’t always mean finding a beach. Sometimes it’s exploring a new city, discovering a little town you’d never heard of, or slowing down long enough to experience everyday life somewhere completely different.
Looking back through these photos, I can’t believe how much the girls have grown. 🥹
For this carousel, I wanted to share more than just where we’ve traveled. I included where we stayed, places we’d recommend, and little tips we’ve picked up along the way, because those are the details I always want to know when planning a trip!
Some of our favorite places are the ones we still talk about years later. And some of our favorite memories came from trips that looked nothing like a traditional vacation.
Not every trip was perfect. Not every destination was warm. And not every adventure included the kids. 😄 But I’m so grateful for all of them.
📌 SAVE this post for future travel inspiration!
Now I’m curious… which of these destinations would you most want to visit? Or is there one you’d love me to share more about?
And if you’re planning to escape New England this winter, stick around! Next week I’m sharing some of my favorite winter getaway recommendations from Boston. ☀️✈️

If you live in New England, consider this your reminder that October always goes by WAY TOO FAST!🍁
We wait all year for this season… and somehow there are only a few weekends when the leaves are perfect, the c***r donuts are warm and every town seems to have some sort of fall festival happening. 😍
So I put together a little “don’t let October pass you by” guide with some of the things happening around New England over the next few weeks. Plus, a reminder that you really don’t need an event to have the perfect fall day.
🍁 Chase the foliage
🎡 Go to a fall fair
🍎 Pick some apples
🎃 Visit a pumpkin festival
👻 Do something spooky
🥾 Take a family hike
🍩 Eat an unreasonable number of c***r donuts 😂
🚗 Or just get in the car and see where the leaves take you
And if you’ve been waiting to head north for the foliage… GO! 🍂😄 We’re heading to the White Mountains this weekend and I cannot wait!
SAVE this for the rest of October + send it to the person you want to have a fall day with! 🍁
I spend so much time thinking about the childhood we’re giving them… but sometimes I forget they’re giving us another childhood too. 🥹❤️
These years of raising our girls are going so much faster than I ever imagined. And when I think about all the places we’ve taken them, I hope they remember the big things…the countries, the beaches, the airplanes, the adventures. 🌎✈️
But I hope they remember the little things even more.
Holding hands walking through a new city. Falling asleep on my shoulder on a plane, train or automobile. Sharing food we’ve never tried before. Hotel-room mornings. Late-night swims. Getting lost. Having your Fanta stolen by a monkey. 😂
Because the more we travel together, the more I realize I’m not just showing them the world. I’m getting to experience it all over again through them. ❤️
Someday they won’t need me to pack their suitcases, hold their hands through airports or take care of them in quite the same way. 😭 And someday, maybe they’ll be the ones taking care of us. 🥹
But right now, these years are their childhood…and they’re my motherhood. And I’m really grateful we get to see so much of the world together. 🌎❤️
That’s what Kailah Fredette | Nowhere On Earth has always been about for me: not checking countries off a list, but making the most of the years we get together.
Because the trips end, but the memories come home with us. ❤️

Planning February or April vacation? ✈️ This one’s for you!
One of my favorite things about living in New England is just how many places we can get to without making a single connection. And when you’re traveling with kids, skipping that extra airport can make a HUGE difference. 😂🙌🏼
So I rounded up 10 international trips you can fly to nonstop from Boston, and our kids have been to every one! ❤️
🇵🇷 Puerto Rico — easiest tropical escape
🇦🇪 Dubai — warm weather + BIG adventure
🇵🇹 Azores — adventure without a huge flight
🇪🇸 Spain — city + coast
🇮🇪 Ireland — easy first European road trip
🇮🇹 Italy — food + history
🇭🇰 Hong Kong — 15+ hours away… on ONE plane 🤯
🇬🇷 Greece — history + islands
🇵🇹 Portugal — Lisbon + Algarve
🇬🇧 London — easy big-city Europe trip (+ Paris by train!)
But here’s the thing: I wouldn’t recommend all 10 equally for both school vacations.
Some are MUCH better in April. Some are perfect for escaping February in New England. And some only make sense if you can tack a few extra days onto the school break.
That’s why I included which break I’d choose, how long I’d want, and what each destination is best for in the carousel.
Because sometimes the hardest part isn’t getting there…it’s figuring out where to go with the week you actually have.
And my biggest advice? You don’t need to cram an entire country into one school vacation. Pick one or two places, slow down and actually enjoy being there! 🙏🏼❤️
📌 Save this before you book February or April vacation!
And send it to the person who needs to start looking at flights with you! 😂✈️

During the Correfoc groups dressed as devils make their way through the streets carrying and setting off pyrotechnics while sparks fly EVERYWHERE. 🔥😳 There are drums, dancing, and crowds lining the streets to watch (some people intentionally get right underneath the sparks!)
Correfoc is a Catalan tradition, and during La Mercè it becomes one of the most incredible spectacles of the entire festival. We specifically planned to see this while we were in Barcelona, but seeing videos beforehand did NOT prepare us for what it actually felt like standing there while sparks were flying toward the crowd. 😂
One thing we learned: where you stand matters. If you want to be right in the action, people come prepared with clothing that covers their skin and protects them from the sparks. If you’d rather just watch, you can stay farther back and still get an amazing view. 🙌🏼
Between this and watching the castells (human towers) earlier in the festival, La Mercè ended up being one of the coolest cultural experiences we’ve had while traveling! ❤️
It’s also exactly why I love planning trips around local festivals when we can. You can visit Barcelona any time of year, but getting to experience traditions like this gives you such a different look at the city and Catalan culture.
📌 Save this if Barcelona during La Mercè is on your travel list!

Family travel plot twist: I left my family at home! 😂 Three mom friends and one long weekend in Barcelona 🇪🇸✈️
Obviously most of what I share here is about traveling WITH our kids, because some of my favorite memories in the world have come from showing them new places 🥰
But I also think there’s something really important about remembering that we were travelers before we became moms, too. ❤️
And sometimes the trip you need isn’t a family vacation. Sometimes it’s getting on a plane with the friends who have known you FOREVER, staying out way too late, eating when YOU want to eat, wandering around a city without worrying about nap schedules and somehow still talking about your kids half the time anyway. 😇
And Barcelona was SO good for this!!
✈️ Nonstop from Boston
🇪🇸 Easy long-weekend destination
🍷 Incredible food + drinks
🏙️ So much to do without needing a car
🌙 And a city that basically encourages you to stay out past your bedtime
So yes, Kailah Fredette | Nowhere On Earth is about family travel from Boston. But maybe part of family travel is also remembering that mom gets to go places too. ❤️
📌 Send this to the moms you could survive 7 hours on a plane with.
Where are we taking the next girls trip?! 👀✈️

Sometimes the best way to survive a New England winter… is to leave. 😂❄️✈️
And depending on what kind of trip you’re looking for, escaping the cold can look VERY different. ☀️
After traveling to all 7 of these destinations, here’s where I’d go based on the vacation you actually want:
🏖️ JUST GIVE ME A BEACH: Puerto Rico 🇵🇷
🌴 CARIBBEAN DREAM: Saint Lucia 🇱🇨
🇪🇺 EUROPE WITHOUT THE DEEP FREEZE: Lisbon 🇵🇹
🌋 ADVENTURE: São Miguel, Azores 🇵🇹
☀️ MILDER-WEATHER EUROPE: Southern Spain 🇪🇸
🌴 EASIEST TROPICAL VACATION: Aruba 🇦🇼
🐒 BEACH + ADVENTURE: Costa Rica 🇨🇷
And because I know the first question is always “Okay…but how much is this actually going to cost?” 💸😂, I included an estimated one-week total for a family of four for each destination, including flights from Boston, accommodations, transportation and food + drinks.
Obviously prices can vary A LOT depending on your dates, where you stay and how you travel, especially during Christmas and February vacation, but these should give you a good starting point for planning.
One thing I’ve learned after a lot of New England winters: your winter escape doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s. Maybe you want 80 degrees and a beach. Maybe you’d happily take 60 degrees and Europe. Or maybe you want waterfalls, hot springs and an adventure somewhere completely different. ❤️
The important part is getting a break from looking at that dirty pile of snow at the end of the driveway! 🥶❄️
📌 SAVE this for winter trip planning!
And send it to the person you’d happily escape New England winter with☀️✈️

This was one of those travel moments we had NO idea we were about to experience 😱
We happened to be in Barcelona during La Mercè, the city’s major annual festival, and it ended up being one of the coolest parts of our trip!
La Mercè is a huge celebration of Barcelona and Catalan culture, with music, parades, dancing, fireworks, the famous correfoc 🔥 and traditions like the one you’re watching here: castells, or human towers.
And yes… those are CHILDREN climbing to the top!
Castells are a deeply rooted Catalan tradition. Teams called colles castelleres work together to build these incredible towers, sometimes reaching six to ten levels. The strongest members form the lower levels and the upper levels are traditionally made up of younger, lighter members, including children.
The smallest child who reaches the very top is called the enxaneta, and when they reach the summit, they raise a hand in a gesture called fer l’aleta. 👋🏼
What looks absolutely WILD to those of us seeing it for the first time is actually a tradition built around strength, balance, courage, teamwork and community, passed from generation to generation. Castells are so important to Catalan cultural identity that UNESCO added them to its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010. ❤️👍🏼
And yes, the tower in our video falls. Everyone was okay, and watching the enormous group at the base immediately work together to protect everyone above them made the whole thing even more fascinating to witness. 😊
This is exactly why we love being somewhere during a local festival. You can see the famous sights anytime, but getting to experience traditions like this gives you such a different look at the place and the people who call it home!
Have you ever seen a castell in person?! 👀
