Before it becomes a ring, it was a collage.
She didn’t just save these to a folder. She printed them, cut them, arranged them on paper, sat with cutouts instead of a scroll.
Laid out like this, I can see what draws her, what resonates. A glimpse into her essence. The soft, timeless bands. The center stone honoring her heirloom. Not one ring she wanted, but a pattern she kept returning to.
This is where every Design Ceremony begins, not with an answer, but with what someone reaches for again and again.
What’s a shape you keep coming back to. Tell me below, or save this for when it’s your turn.
This is the first bolo tie I have designed for my client, and something about it has stayed with me all week.
Since finishing it, I keep noticing them everywhere. Yesterday alone: I connected with someone wearing her grandfather’s silver bolo, worn soft at the edges the way only decades can do that. Then, further down the block, a flash of turquoise around someone else’s neck.
It made me think about how a piece of jewelry becomes a signal once you have designed one yourself. You start to notice the quiet language of it. Who found theirs at a vintage shop and made it their own. Who is wearing a story.
Portland has more bolo love in it than I realized. I am glad to be adding one more to the mix.

This ring is so buttery, weighty and delicious that I’d eat this if it was chocolate. We went through thoughtful and intentional refinements to arrive here. Finished with a fine hammered matte finish that frames the high polished metal “gem”. The metal “gem” matches the size of her diamond 💍. It’s a detail that connects one with other.
Let’s reimagine your proposal with an engagement ring that holds so much feeling and intention that it becomes meaningful.

I designed this ring to hold two things at once a secret love letter and a revelation. From above, it reads as something quietly elegant, almost antique in its sensibility. Turn it in your hand and two love birds appear, facing each other across a teal sapphire I chose because it reminded me of water. A birdbath. A place birds return to refresh.
The quetzal is sacred in the culture my family comes from a symbol of freedom that cannot survive in captivity. I wanted my first bird ring to carry that. This is my heritage, worked in gold.
The diamond came first. An heirloom, carried from somewhere she may never know.
The islands grew around it. Frangipani for devotion, new beginnings, the fragility of something precious. Bird of paradise in Montana sapphire for joy, for freedom, for where they’re headed.
One stone. Two flowers. Three islands of meaning.
Some diamonds keep their secrets. This one let Hawaii speak for it.

Some couples arrive knowing exactly what they want.
These two came with a feeling.
Old world. Classic. Something that held both of them.
One is a history teacher, drawn to art deco’s timeless geometry, the kind of beauty that endures. The other finds peace in nature, in the quiet language of leaves and living things.
So we brought their worlds together.
The Empire State’s architectural lines are engraved into the band, accented by baguettes that catch light like a skyline at dusk.
And cradling the rosecut diamond, a botanical leaf, soft and organic, a breath of green in all that gold.
They wanted something unique. A statement. Something comfortable enough to live in every day.
What they built is exactly that, a love that balances structure with softness, history with growth.
A ring that holds both of them, the way they hold each other.

✨ DM “ceremony” to begin your ring’s story
Once lost but now found. A new wedded ring design for my long time clients. Sometimes in between years we grow into our selves more refined with a hint of the whimsy that’s always been present.
It’s one of those days of ideas swimming around in my mind.
Rosecut diamonds have a way of slowing time.
Their broad, open facets gather light softly, like moonlight on water or sunlight through a window at golden hour. With more of the diamond visible and less hidden beneath the surface, they invite you deeper into their world, revealing every silvery flash, every dreamy reflection.
There’s something wonderfully timeless about a rosecut diamond.
