Calling all authors! The 2026 Author Fair application is now open!

Bucks County Free Library is hosting an Author Fair for Bucks County authors in November. Authors can promote their published work, meet with members of the local community, interact with other writers, and have the opportunity to sell and sign copies of their books during the event.

All professionally published and self-published authors from the area are welcome to apply. Space is limited. All communication for this event will occur through email.

Application deadline is September 14, 2026. You will be notified via email by September 21, 2026 if you have been accepted.

The event will take place on November 7, at the Doylestown Library.

Bucks County is Born to Read! Summer Questers are earning this badge by helping tell the greatest – and maybe zaniest – story ever told! Swipe to check out some of the plot twists we did not see coming!

The Born to Read badge offers various activities to complete, including contributing to a community Story Jam. The community Story Jam has Summer Questers adding a chapter to an overall story starring Gordy the Library Gecko! So far, Gordy has met a tiger in a cave (yikes!), ridden a snake-infested hot air balloon (double yikes!), also met an angry carrot (triple yikes?), and, of course, was the star of the World Cup!

This year marks Bucks County Free Library’s 70th anniversary. Each of our Bucks County Free Library branches has a unique story to tell.

The Yardley-Makefield branch can trace its history back to 1845, when the original Yardleyville Library Company was founded. Originally housed in a local store, then the offices of an attorney, the library eventually settled upon the shore of Lake Afton in 1877.

The library merged with the county system in the 1970’s and now occupies a township complex in Lower Makefield, just two miles away from the original “library on the lake,” which still stands today, maintained by the Yardley Historical Association.

We are proud to serve the Bucks County community for seven decades and counting.
