This evening, Dry Ridge Fire Department, along with members from several departments throughout the county, conducted victim search and rescue scenarios.
These scenarios put crews in situations where they had to make critical, time-sensitive decisions and take immediate action to locate and rescue a victim trapped inside a structure fire. Training like this helps our crews stay prepared for the real calls where every second matters.
A special thank you to Williamstown Fire Department for offering an acquired structure in the area to conduct this training. Their willingness to provide these opportunities and their commitment to improving training and readiness across the entire county is greatly appreciated.
We’re proud to work alongside departments throughout the county to continue sharpening our skills and better prepare ourselves to serve our communities when we’re needed most.

🚒 Are you tired of hearing from us yet? 😂
Over the last few days, we’ve shown you 1st Shift and 2nd Shift putting in the work with vehicle extrication training. Tonight, it’s 3rd Shift’s turn! 🚨
Our crews continued practicing vehicle extrication, but 3rd Shift took it a step further by thinking outside the box and working through some lesser-used techniques and scenarios.
And that matters.
Vehicle crashes aren’t always cookie-cutter situations. Every wreck is different, and sometimes the tools and techniques we use every day aren’t enough to solve the problem in front of us. When that happens, our firefighters have to be able to adapt, think creatively, and use every resource available to safely remove a patient.
Training like this prepares us for the moments when seconds count. ⏱️
A few extra minutes spent practicing an uncommon technique during training could make all the difference when that technique is needed on a real emergency.
Great job by 3rd Shift for putting in the work, thinking outside the box, and continuing to sharpen the skills that help us serve our community. 🔥🚒
And yes… we promise we’ll eventually stop posting about vehicle extrication 😂

Today, we want to recognize the hard work and heart shown by 2nd Shift at the City of Dry Ridge Fire Department. ❤️🚒
Our crew put together Pediatric Comfort Kits, which will be placed on our first-out medical units and available for our youngest patients when they need them most.
These kits were created to help reduce fear, anxiety, and stress during what can be a scary and unfamiliar experience for a child. Whether they’re being transported to the hospital, evaluated after an accident, or simply having a difficult day, a small item can provide comfort, distraction, and emotional support.
Each kit includes a variety of age-appropriate items, such as:
🧸 Sensory and fidget toys
😊 Squishies and comfort items
🖍️ Crayons and coloring paper
🦖 Toy dinosaurs
🚗 Hot Wheels cars
🫧 Bubbles
🎶 Toy flutes and noisemakers
🎲 Other small toys and activities
Our goal is simple: help make a difficult situation a little less frightening for a child.
We’re proud of 2nd Shift for recognizing a need and taking the time to make a difference—not just through emergency response, but through compassion and kindness.
Sometimes the smallest gestures can make the biggest impact. ❤️
Thank you, 2nd Shift, for taking care of Grant County from every angle! 👏🚒❤️
🚒🔥 2nd Shift Vehicle Extrication Training! 🔥🚒
Our 2nd Shift crew spent another day sharpening their vehicle extrication skills! Today’s training focused on several different techniques and methods for safely removing victims from vehicles when every second counts.
With limited resources, it’s critical that our crews stay well-trained, confident, and ready to perform at the top of their game when the call comes in. You never know what the next wreck will look like—or what challenges it will throw at you!
Big thanks to our crews for putting in the work and continuing to train for the worst so we can be ready when our community needs us most. An even bigger thanks to Gordon’s Towing for your commitment to the community by donating these cars for us to train on.
Train hard. Stay ready. Serve our community. 💪🚒

🚒 Training Today = Being Ready Tomorrow! 🚒
Today, 1st Shift at the City of Dry Ridge Fire Department put in some hands-on vehicle extrication training! 🔥🧑🚒
Our crews worked through door and side removals, dashboard raises, roof removals, and a variety of other extrication techniques designed to sharpen our skills and keep us prepared for the unexpected.
🚗💥 When a serious crash happens, every second matters. Knowing how to safely and efficiently remove a vehicle from around a patient can make a huge difference in getting them the access and care they need.
Training like this allows our firefighters to practice different techniques, work through challenges, and build the muscle memory and teamwork needed when the situation is real.
We don’t train because we expect the worst — we train because our community deserves our best when the worst happens. 💪🚒
A big shoutout to our 1st Shift crew for putting in the work today! Stay sharp, stay ready, and keep learning! 🔥👨🚒
Train hard. Respond ready. Serve Dry Ridge
Special thanks to Gordon’s Towing for the car. Businesses like this are a huge help when trying to sharpen skills.

School Bus Safety
🚌 BACK TO SCHOOL = BUS SAFETY! 🚌
As students across our community head back to school this week, the Dry Ridge Fire Department wants to remind everyone to slow down, stay alert, and watch for school buses.
🚨 There is also an important change to Kentucky law this year.
Under House Bill 7, which took effect July 15, drivers must stop for a school bus with its stop arm extended and lights flashing on a highway without an elevated barrier or unpaved median — even if you are traveling in the opposite direction. The previous exemption for drivers traveling the opposite direction on roads with four or more lanes no longer applies.
⚠️But this isn’t just about avoiding a ticket — it’s about protecting our kids.
👀 Drivers:
• Watch carefully for school buses and children near the roadway.
• Never pass a stopped school bus with its stop arm extended and lights flashing.
• Put the phone down and eliminate distractions.
• Give yourself extra time during the morning and afternoon commute.
🎒 Parents and students:
• Arrive at the bus stop early.
• Stay in a safe location away from the roadway.
• Keep phones and earbuds put away when approaching or boarding the bus.
• Never chase after a bus if you miss it.
A few extra seconds of patience could make the difference between a close call and a tragedy.
Let’s work together to make sure every child makes it to school — and back home — safely.
Have a safe and successful school year, Grant County! ❤️

🌩️ Grant county has experienced some serious storms recently, and we want everyone to take a moment to review some important safety reminders.
As storms cause power outages throughout our area, please remember:
🔌 Generator Safety
* Never connect a generator directly to your home’s electrical system unless it has been properly installed by a qualified electrician with the appropriate transfer equipment.
* Improper wiring can cause backfeeding, putting utility workers, firefighters, and your neighbors at serious risk.
* Operate generators outside and away from doors, windows, and vents to prevent carbon monoxide from entering your home.
* Treat every power line as if it is live. Stay away from downed or damaged lines and report them to the appropriate utility.
🫁 A Special Reminder for Those Who Rely on Oxygen
Power outages can create an especially dangerous situation for individuals who depend on oxygen concentrators. If the power goes out, an oxygen concentrator may not function.
If you use an oxygen concentrator, please have a backup oxygen cylinder available and make sure it is ready to use before severe weather arrives.
If you rely on oxygen and do not have a backup oxygen cylinder during a power outage, please call the Dry Ridge Fire Department for assistance. We want to help keep our community’s most vulnerable residents safe.
❤️ A few minutes of preparation before the storm can make a tremendous difference when the power goes out.
Stay safe, stay informed, and remember: when it comes to electricity, always assume the line is live.
