🌿 Welcome to the Community Venue Garden! 🌿

Our Master Plan capstone is complete! September 24th, we had a celebration! The new Community Venue Garden at the Durango Public Library became officially open and ready to welcome you.

This public garden blends groundcovers, native plants, and bulbs into a beautiful setting that also serves as Durango's newest outdoor venue. The stage is finished, the lawn is restored, and the space is now available to rent for community gatherings and private events alike.

Picture your next celebration, performance, workshop, or meetup surrounded by the beauty of the Durango Botanic Gardens. 🌸🎶

📅 Reservations will be made through the Durango Public Library's room reservation system, opening soon. Stay tuned for the link!

Save the date.....The Community Venue Garden

On Thursday, September 24, 5:00-6:00pm, the Durango Botanic Gardens will officially dedicate its new Community Venue Garden, our latest addition to the Botanic Gardens around the library. We hope you can join us for some spirited entertainment by Tom Ward’s Downfall, a local traditional Celtic band, refreshments, and a chance to learn more about this new outdoor venue for private and public events.

This new garden features three distinctly themed plant sections, all anchored by a new steel pergola stage, available for rental through the library’s room reservation system. The public can begin reserving the stage on September 24. More information on that will be provided during the dedication.

Hope to see you there!

When: Thursday, September 24, 5:00-6:00pm

Where: Durango Botanic Gardens, around the library, just follow the music by Tom Ward's Downfall, a Durango-based traditional Celtic bank, playing locally and regionally: comprised of wickedly good musicians. They'll get your toes tapping with trad dance tunes, jigs, reels, and a collection of sweet and romping songs! Click image below for more on this talented group.

Next up in the Great Garden Series!

If you've been waiting for the right moment, this is it. Five minutes today means a garden full of color next spring.

If you're short on time here are a few suggestions:

1. Check out our quick reference guides below for what bulbs are available and what bulbs do well in our beautiful Colorado region.

2. Some of your favorites out of stock? Show up early at the bulb pickup dates and locations in October. We might get some extra bulbs from the supplier, and your favorites might be among them! No guarantees, but these things do happen.

3. Your favorites not available? Try something new; you might be pleasantly surprised!

Order before midnight tonight: https://www.dbgbulbsale.org/
To everyone who has already ordered: thank you, truly. This sale is one of the most important fundraisers of the year for the Gardens, and your support keeps Durango blooming, in the demonstration beds, in the classrooms, and in yards all over town.

We'll be in touch soon with pickup details. Until then, happy dreaming of spring.

On Monday, the Durango Botanic Gardens welcomed a group of students from Fort Lewis College for a tour and conversation about our gardens and how they have evolved over the past 16 years.  The students, primarily from Indigenous traditions, have begun creating their own Indigenous-inspired garden.  They appreciated the ideas and guidance presented by Hollis Hassenstein, the developer and lead for the DBG Indigenous Garden.

🌷 The favorites are emerging, and only days left to order!

We know it's hot out there, and it can be tough to imagine next spring with beautiful bulbs popping up everywhere. But we promise: the effort of choosing your bulbs now will have its rewards.

We're just 6 days in, and this year's bulb sale is already bigger than last year's! The early front runners? Amaryllis, Alliums, and Hyacinth are flying.

New to bulbs? Narcissus are a wonderful place to start with showy flowers that are also deer- and rodent-resistant. A win all around.

If you've been meaning to place your order, this is a lovely week to do it. Selection remains strong, and you'll have your pick of the collection.

And if you've already ordered: thank you! Consider sharing this with a neighbor with a garden bed and good intentions. Bulbs make wonderful gifts, and spring is better shared.

Here's to the beauty of bulbs! 🌸
