đź’™ 43 volunteers. One incredible river. A LOT of trash removed! đź’™

What a day on the Animas! A huge THANK YOU to the 43 volunteers who came out Saturday and gave their time and energy to help clean up our river and its banks. We picked up an incredible amount of trash, and we couldn’t have done it without this community showing up in a big way.

A special thank you to the people and organizations who helped make the cleanup possible:

🥪 ERO Resources generously sponsored lunch for all of our volunteers.

🥪 Tom’s Deli made 48 sandwiches for our hungry crew and generously gave us a discount.

🥤 Dasha Greidanus | Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices provided drinks to keep everyone hydrated.

🧤 Durango Parks & Recreation provided trash bags, gloves and additional trash pickup to help us get everything off the riverbanks and where it belonged.

And most of all, THANK YOU to our 43 volunteers! You spent part of your Saturday picking up other people’s trash because you care about this river and this community. That means a lot.

We ❤️ our Animas River, and we’re pretty proud of the community that takes care of it.

Thank you for showing up for our beloved Animas River!

Help rehab the extensive Hermosa Creek habitat project!

Date: October 9th
Time: 2-5pm
Who: Everyone

As many of you know, we've been working with the U.S. Forest Service for multiple decades to restore Hermosa Creek as a native cutthroat trout fishery. Another step in that process is in the works on both the East Fork and the Mainstem. Aquatic organism passages (otherwise known as bridges/culverts) have been built over both stems to eventually prevent vehicles from driving across the creeks. With that work came heavy machinery and disturbed lands.

This is where we come in.

USFS and TU need help spreading seeds and planting willows and we are looking for up to 30 volunteers, so the more the merrier.

All materials, tools, and other necessities will be provided, but please bring gloves, water and whatever else you need. Brats and beverages will be provided for all volunteers after the work is complete!

Come fish with 5RTU and meet other anglers in the Durango area

When: TOMORROW!

What: This will be our fourth Cast and Connect. It is an informal meetup for anglers that just want to meet others, and, oh yeah, do some fishing!

Where: South Mineral Creek (near Ice Lakes Trailhead). Meet at the parking lot at PJ's Gourmet Market in Trimble. Look for a truck with the 5RTU Banner and a fly rod rack. We'll carpool or caravan up to Silverton/Mineral Creek from there.

What to bring: Fishing gear and your lunch/snacks/drinks! If you let us know ahead of time, we could get a rod and reel or two, but you will need your own flies, leaders, lunch, etc. Reach out to [email protected] if so!

Times: 9 AM to early/mid afternoon!
