ππ Space Princess absolutely killing it with the crunchy bass at the Four Corners Mycological Society Lizard Head Pass Gathering.
This one is 3 minutes and 20 seconds, but watch it all the way through because it turns into a little nighttime tour of some of the shenanigans happening under the fir trees.
I wander over to our mushroom identification tent, where Space Princess had set up color-sequencing lights that completely transformed the specimens on the tables. As the colors changed, different pigments, textures, and details seemed to emerge, and when the black light came through, some of those mushrooms looked absolutely wild.
Then we wander into the community kitchen, where I had a pot of hawk's wing mushroom stew cooking while bass rolled through the forest.
Mushroom identification. Wild-foraged food. Community kitchen. Lights moving through mushrooms. Crunchy bass. Enormous fir trees. Mountain air. A bunch of mushroom nerds dancing in the woods.
This is the kind of mycological gathering I love creating.
Educational, collaborative, delicious, weird, and ridiculously fun.
Space Princess was KILLING IT. ππ
Definitely watch this one to the end.
Sometimes you have to walk up the hill and look back at what you've created together.
Saturday night at the Four Corners Mycological Society Lizard Head Pass Gathering...
I was standing near my camp, looking down through the silhouettes of these enormous fir trees while Space Princess sent bass rolling up the mountainside.
Down below was this little pocket of community we had created in the forest. The kitchen was going, people were cooking and sharing food, talking mushrooms, laughing, dancing, and settling into the night after a long day of foraging high in the mountains.
And this is the part I love: none of it happened because of one person.
Joshua Gonda showed up with an absolute BEAST of a generator that helped power our little forest dance floor. Space Princess brought the music. Other people brought food, equipment, knowledge, hands, energy, and whatever they had to contribute.
Above all of it, the waxing gibbous moon was shining through the trees.
I just stood there for a while and took it in.
The bass rolling through the firs. The moonlight. The mountain air. A little community of mushroom and nature nerds gathered together at 10,000+ feet.
When you're organizing something, you're often so busy making it happen that you don't actually get to stand back and see what everyone has created together.
This was that moment for me.
And damn... it was beautiful.
This is why we gather. π
Saturday night shenanigans at the Four Corners Mycological Society Lizard Head Pass Campout. π
After an absolutely grueling four-mile mushroom hike above 11,000 feet, 14 of us came back carrying all kinds of fungal treasures, soaked from hiking through the rain, sun-kissed from the moments when the clouds broke, exhausted, muddy, and somehow still in ridiculously good spirits.
And then the evening unfolded...
Mushrooms covered the identification tables. My field guides came out and people started nerding out together over identification. The community kitchen filled with food, beautiful cheeses, and mushrooms from the day's adventures. I cooked up fresh hawk's wings while everyone gathered around, shared food, told stories, and compared finds.
And eventually... we turned up the bass.
Under enormous fir trees and a 77% waxing gibbous moon, a bunch of mushroom and nature nerds danced together at 10,000+ feet.
It was kind of perfect.
About 20 people came together over the weekend, and what struck me most was how much of this gathering happened because people simply showed up and helped.
Hands carrying things. Hands cooking. Hands identifying mushrooms. Hands setting up camp. Hands cleaning. Hands helping one another up and down the mountain. Hands making music.
I could not have done this alone.
I came home tired, but incredibly inspired, with a renewed sense of what can happen when community stops being an idea and becomes something we actually participate in.
There is something profoundly hopeful about watching people bring what they have, contribute where they can, and collectively create something none of us could have created quite the same way alone.
Mushrooms. Mountains. Rain. Food. Music. Moonlight. Bass. Laughter. Camaraderie.
And a whole bunch of beautiful mushroom nerds beneath the fir trees.
So much gratitude for every single person who helped make this weekend what it became. π
A new Drip Drop has landed.
Shanti π§ Drop is now live on SoundCloud.
Sometimes a dance isn't about performing. It's about letting the body remember something the mind forgot.
This little reel is just a glimpse of the journey.
If it moves something in you, I'd love for you to hear the full track. The SoundCloud link is in the first comment (or in my bio, depending on where you're watching).
Thank you for listening, dancing, sharing, and helping this music find the people it's meant to find.
With love and bass,

Fire has a language all its own.
It speaks in circles, sparks, courage, and surrender.
Grateful for another beautiful summer gathering surrounded by an incredible community, with The Alkemizer (Mustafa Alkemizer) guiding the evening from the decks.
The music, the movement, and the fire all seemed to breathe together, creating one of those moments that can't really be captured... only experienced.
My heart is full.
Until the next dance beneath the stars. π₯β¨
