The home was the hearth - but the roof leaked…

We unearthed this special family home and set it within the natural topography of the site while mitigating stormwater runoff from the floodplain in a developing Chatham Park.

The altered underground concrete structure capitalizes on an existing interior barrel roof atrium. A subterranean slab is reinvented as a roof deck with views over the adjacent creek.

Bluestone slabs from an old school house in Winston Salem were repurposed as steppers through a dry creek garden of what once was a circular driveway. (thanks )
