Our Duke Ophthalmic Technician Program students recently practiced applanation tonometry, a technique used to measure intraocular pressure.

After applying fluorescein dye and numbing drops, students used a slit lamp and blue light to assess the force needed to gently flatten a small area of the cornea. This measurement helps eye care professionals evaluate eye health and monitor conditions such as glaucoma.

Duke OpTech students recently gained hands-on experience with corneal topography technology. This imaging technology plays an important role in ophthalmology, and our students learned how it helps map the shape and curvature of the cornea to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of corneal conditions.
