We have received reports that the people displaced from Oakwood Park last week, including small children, have now been kicked out of the temp housing (aka hotels) that the city and HEART claim they had secured for them for a year. They were placed in these hotels with no food or water (folks from the community have been providing this as much as possible) and now have no shelter AND no food. We need as many folks as possible to step up and assist as the dismantling of the encampment has scattered folks and made it harder to provide people with the support they need.

Overly stressed, disabled and sick people with children are being told by HEART to call Durham intake and repeat processes they’ve already completed. What this city is doing is unconscionable. Durham is actively trying to kill poor people.

Update on our request for a joint resolution from City of Durham, NC Government city council and Durham County Government County Commissioners in support on The UN resolution recognizing slavery as the gravest crime against humanity:

I spoke to Mayor Leonardo Williams today via text and he informed me that his time was devoted to the budget prior to the council going on recess. He promised to get to it when the city council reconvenes in August.
