On June 3rd almost 500 community leaders, experts, and changemakers joined us for What Matters to explore one of the Triangle’s biggest challenges: housing affordability.

In our latest blog post, we reflect on the event, taking a look at the insights shared by national and local leaders and what they could mean for the future of the Triangle.

As the Triangle continues to grow, communities across the region are searching for new ways to improve housing affordability -including renewed interest in the “Missing Middle.”

This historic housing model includes smaller-scale multi-unit homes that fall between single-family houses and large apartment complexes. Once common in older neighborhoods, many of these housing types largely disappeared due to decades of zoning restrictions. Today, Triangle area cities are revisiting this approach as they look for ways to expand housing choices, support affordability, and create more connected communities.
