Ever since Sean Bonnette and Ben Gallaty formed AJJ back in 2004, it’s felt like the world has been playing catch-up. That’s because the band—completed these days by guitarist/keyboard player Preston Bryant, cellist Mark Glick and (relatively) new drummer Kevin Higuchi—has always woven apocalyptic themes and imagery into many of its songs and lyrics. They even self-released a record called Good Luck Everybody in January 2020, as if they knew what was coming. Now though, in 2023, with their eighth studio record and debut on Hopeless Records, Disposable Everything, it feels like the world is finally aligned with AJJ’s doom-laden prophecies – albeit one that still shimmers with hope.

Todd Barry has released four one-hour stand-up specials including his latest one, Domestic Shorthair. He's appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Late Show with David Letterman, Conan and Late Night with Seth Meyers. His acting credits include the feature films The Wrestler and Road Trip. He has also starred in several television series such as Flight of the Concords, Chappelle's Show, Spin City, S*x and the City and many more. You may have heard his voice on the animated series Bob’s Burgers, Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist, and Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Todd is also the author of the critically-acclaimed 2017 travel memoir Thank You For Coming To Hattiesburg.

The past few years have been a busy one for alt-rock band Beach Weather—consisting of Nick Santino, Sean Silverman and Reeve Powers – who had the fastest rise to the top of the charts with No. 1 Alt hit single “S*x, Drugs, Etc.” off of their billion-streamed debut album Pineapple Sunrise. They made stops at music festivals like BottleRock Napa Valley, Hangout Music Festival, and Shaky Knees, and toured with the likes of Pierce The Veil, Young The Giant, Cold War Kids, The Beaches and lovelytheband—continuing the momentum into 2026, the band is expected to release their 3rd studio album.

There are no signs of slowing down, having just shared various singles this year including “High in Low Places,” “Hottest Summer On Record,” and now “Hardcore Romance,” which will be a part of the band's second album, Melt. Get ready for the desert disco.

From the ancestral sounds of the gaitas and drums to the accordion of the sabanas and the electric bass that helped redefine tropical music, this record celebrates the full arc of cumbia's evolution.

Together, these artists embody nearly every chapter of cumbia's recorded history—from its ceremonial Afro-Indigenous origins and rural accordion traditions to its electrification, international expansion, and enduring legacy. Madre Cumbia is more than a collaboration; it is a gathering of the musicians who have preserved, transformed, and carried one of Latin America's most important musical traditions across generations.
