Did you know that Duke Life Flight has a weather station on top of Duke University Hospital?

This Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS), call sign NC92 or KTQV, is a fully configurable airport weather support platform that provides continuous, real time information and reports on weather conditions.

Depending on the configuration, AWOS measure a combination of the following parameters:

• Barometric pressure
• Wind speed and direction
• Temperature, visibility and sky conditions
• Precipitation type (rains, snow, drizzle)

Duke Life Flight is proud to offer our Landing Zone Safety Class-hands-on, scenario-based training designed for fire, EMS, and law enforcement teams who help make helicopter operations safe and successful.

We’ll focus on the skills that matter when the aircraft is on the way:

✅ Identifying and mitigating LZ hazards
✅ Night operations and special considerations
